    No, I have essentially 2 new mandolins by having them re-fretted, 1 needed fingerboard leveling in the process .
    the playability after that made a real felt improvement.

    I have 2, now 100 year old A Gibson mandolins they both have the original tuners .
    lots of obsessing over tuners , gear heads?
    service them , a little oil perhaps? consider dry bike chain lube...

    there is a steel core even in bronze wound strings, but better if the winding is seen in the magnetic field, also.

    Part of why I like Fiberglass cases is the D Rings. Pegasus carries well, 1 on hinge side 2nd, one of the handle D rings.

    But the 3_D rings on the back of my Eastman case take an actual 2 strap...

    enlarge the hole to suit. & guitar pickup options are abundant

    I made a new scratch plate for a Fender (Korea) FM61 8 string to do that

    Mix Carbon fiber, I think. * Heat activated the Resin. vacuum pulls out air bubbles.

    Check with Clear Carbon in Rhode Island.. also involved in Luis & Clark Orchestral stringed instrument on MA.

    I bought one that was leather with a short strap & Buckle on each end .
    the music repair shop / store supplier catalog he sourced it from had 2 versions 1 for D rings the straps on the ends.

    A: you can try a number of locations and see which part of the top gives you the sound you prefer.
