Very nice recording, Martun. I had a look at Youtube to listen to a keyboard version.
It's BWV 811. I found a Youtube clip of a 5 year old Chinese girl, playing it at high speed.

And these two fine Russian players:

You mention only Avi Avital as a well known performer, so I don't know what other classical mandolin players you already know.
Three performers of J.S.Bach:

I also love this tune.
There are versions in 6/8 and in 3/4.
I had played it as a slow waltz in A.
If I remember right, I had tried to do the tremolo in groups of six:

Thanks for the string gauge recommandations! Today I tried to replace my thin sounding 010 a-string with an 011-inch one to fatten up the sound a little bit. It broke when I tried to tune it higher...
Thanks again for your thoughts. Well, first of all, I've got to decide whether a tenor guitar is so important to me, that I will spend the money for a handbuilt tenor guitar. Until now, tenor guitar...
I was thinking about having a tenor guitar built by Fletcher, Foster or Girouard. All their videos show tenor guitars tuned in GDAE.
That goes without a question, but I have some doubts whether the above mentioned tenors are built to handle CGDA tuning or whether they unfold their full potential only tuned GDAE.
As decent as my Kala sounds played with a thick pick on the lower three strings, I'm simply not able to coax such a kind of tone from the high A-string.
That's why I think of an upgrade sometime in...
I'm no expert, but I've noticed, that the MR-Suzukis have a solid headstock with a Martin-like logo, whereas the M-Suzukis have a slotted headstock.
I had a M-60 rosewood mandolin, that was OK for...
I tried to work a bit on my end of the tone production. I bought a very thick pick made of casein and played with the rounded edge sul tasto in order to get a more mellow tone. Maybe I'll get some...
Thanks Jim! The pick shown in the picture is called "Wolle". The music store Trekel offered their variation on the Wolle pick, the Trekel pick.
Since I got one, I use it exclusively, even on my...
Thanks again for the recommandations! I posted a want ad for a Pono steelstring baritone in a German ukulele forum, but there were no answers. I also asked a German dealer, but he told me, that he...
Thanks for the answers folks!
I had a look at Fletchers tenor guitars and they are a little outside my price range, I was thinking 1000-1500.
I googled Martin 5-15 T and found only models from the...
I have two tenor guitars: a Blueridge BR 40-T and a Kala tenor guitar.
As much as I like the Blueridge for playing chords in our little acoustic trio, it doesn't inspire me much to play melodies on...
Back in 2009, I had Don Paine build me a Pomeroy A2 mandolin.
It has become one of my favorite instruments.
I especially like the sound it has with flatwound strings.

And here is Mike Compton (among others) playing the Tombigbee Waltz:

I also have a video of Ookpik Waltz on Youtube and I never had any problems:

The sheet music is available for...
There is also a first setting with three measures of D in a row and a lttle different melody line:

Anna Maria Bagger is an able young classical mandolin player.
She has recorded lots of videos for edition 49.
Her latest video is a duet with Evita Schlender:

Michael plays it the way it is notated, I just couldn't keep myself from adding a little tremolo to the longer notes.;)
Another interesting site concerning contemporary mandolin compositions might be the German Pan-Verlag:

They print classics such as...
What Michael says about the guitar parts is true, the guitar accompaniment to the tune Face in the Crowd seemed quite challenging to me.
Mandolin-wise, it is rather simple, but Barbara...
At least, he plays Bach with that grip:

By the way: Caterina Lichtenberg also has a non-standard pick-grip
She doesn't plant her pinky, but her index...
Got to revive this thread I started almost 2 years ago: I bought the book, but I never managed to play something from it, so it ended up in a pile of unused sheet music books.;)
But lately it was...
