  1. Re: Tips. exercises, approach to strumming while playing melody

Crash2, Thanks for asking this question. I'll be following along, because I've been wondering about this exact thing. My husband plays mountain dulcimer, and that sounds is common in dulcimer music,...
  2. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

And "awesome" used to mean "awe-inspiring," rather than "really good."

Shall we discuss the similarities between "terrible" and "terrific" next?
  3. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

Since we have wandered so far afield of my question, and since differences between languages has become a topic, I must share with you the ingredients of a wonderful misunderstanding that took place...

Re: Ready to get my hillbilly on!

I find it more amazing when I meet non-musicians who have a clue about mandolins--or any other instrument.

    Re: Crossrock Mandolin Cases

    Re: Crossrock Mandolin Cases

And I was happy because I found them on eBay at $199. Ah, well. That's the shopper's life, right?
  13. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

Oh, my heart! I think we need to find a different forum for that discussion. Or start a social group for fans of off-topic chats. I keep expecting expulsion for starting this particular, yet...
  14. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

My department's graduate advisor, when introducing a few of us to new faculty or other students, would say something like, "This is Bruce, he's archeology; this is Melissa, she's primatology, and...
  15. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

    That was just plain beautiful.
  16. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

And we can note that "thought" does not rhyme with "route" nor "bout," even though the three share the same vowel pair. We can ascribe that neat trick to conditioning environment. Oh, wait! "Though"...
  17. Re: Tuning machine planks with 1" spacing?

Thank you. I think the ones you linked are the ones I am hoping to replace.
  18. Tuning machine planks with 1" spacing?

If any of you knows where one might find tuning machine planks with 1" spacing, I would be grateful for the information. Thank you.
  19. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

And finer question marks I have never seen. If you're sugggesting I might challenge the lyrical stylings of Steve Martin, I might have to challenge you to a bout! But I'm not that kind of girl. I...
  20. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

I dunno, Sue, I find "sporange" in the dictionary as a singular noun:

What rhymes, fully, partially, on the slant or straight...
  21. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

Oh, Spencer, Spencer, Spencer. My husband and I had a good chuckle over your question (and for a second there, I wondered what "chuckle" rhymes with, but then "buckle" came to mind almost instantly....
  22. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

But that edit throws the meter off . . . and gives us a half-rhyme. What can you do with "sporange," the only true rhyme in English with orange? It's part of a fern (but not the kind of fern I asked...

I'm so proud of you and Sue for your restraint. ;)
  24. Re: Latest ignorant question: Bout like "boot" or like boxing mat

I'm sure several theses have been done on those differences.
