Re: 2nd Mandolin. Ellis? Gibson? Clark? Weber?

I can vouch for Patrick, and his work can be seen here:

I bought the first set, octave and mandolin, that became available last year. A friend of mine...
  3. Re: Ultimate Vintage Snakeheadedness and Chocolatey Goodness

Matt Flinner has one like this, Jim. You are in good company.

and I think any music will do, even Wagner.
  4. Re: Ultimate Vintage Snakeheadedness and Chocolatey Goodness

It needs a little of the Led Zeppelin treatment. Mike Holmes told me that if he wanted to wake an instrument up he put it on a stand in front of a speaker and played a little 70’s rock into it for a...

  6. Re: Carter Vintage Guitars is now Carter Vintage Exchange

TNAG lists the same physical address as Carters.
  7. Re: Carter Vintage Guitars is now Carter Vintage Exchange

People are paying $8k for a Collings I35LC (new price increase went into effect). And they are not Boomers. I watched a kid (sixteen) pick out a DeTemple Tele and a Carr amp in TME a few weeks ago....
  8. Re: Carter Vintage Guitars is now Carter Vintage Exchange

Tomorrow the Authentic will be worth less than what you paid and the vintage Martin will be worth $45k (at least). Different pool of buyers.

In every market you need to know your buyer pool. The...

I'm going down to pick up my octave mandolin from TME and am curious to play this one. And yes, they do a great job with the pictures.

    Re: Bourgeois M5A Mandolin

I donít believe Northfield started that far back. The website, under the team section states 2011, and there was literally nothing like them pricewise, at least not with the level of quality. I...

    Re: Bourgeois M5A Mandolin

The aesthetic on the Bourgeois looks like this:

which is ok, unless you are expecting it to perform the...

    Re: Consignment Advice

20% does not even begin to cover the cost of the aggravation and the risk of shipping high dollar instruments, let alone having a pool of buyers at their finger tips.

    I have neither the tenacity...

Re: Blue Chip CT55 (and other Xmas ideas)

For Xmas one year I put together a little string changing kit for my niece, who had just started playing. Wire/string cutter, string winder, neck rest, a mat to lay the mandolin on to change...

Re: Bentrup Stealth in the classifieds

I believe there was one true Griffin copy. He did however build some larger-bodied A5 style mandolins.

Itís the same one, Jim. Someone changed the tuners, but I think he only made handful of those.

    That was originally mine.

Re: Effect of humidity on a nice mandolin...

    Get a Boveda system.

    https://www.amazon.com/Boveda-Humidity-Control-Muscial-Instruments/dp/B01B6AHW3K?ref_=ast_sto_dp

They have various systems, so pick the one that suits your mandolin.

    Re: Bourgeois M5A Mandolin

I had a friend who had one for a short time. His assessment was “meh.” I played it once. It was fairly lifeless.

    Re: Jubal Mandola F style

I think Anglocelt is referring to modern interpretations of F5 mandolas, not a Gibson branded mandola per say, but I could be mistaken.

As for the approach, Hans Brentrup followed the same scaling...

    Re: Jubal Mandola F style

People are wary of scams. Even on Reverb, which used to be fairly safe and policed, there’s a lot of shenanigans going on.

If only I needed another mandola.

    Re: Bourgeois M5A Mandolin

The comparison was based on what one could get in that price range. A used Northfield M model would be much less than the Bourgeois.

I’ve played one or two of his guitars. They were nice, and would not drain your wallet.
