    Re: Favorite F straps?

I have had a Harrison Strap for the last few years and it's the best strap I have ever used in my 41 years of mandolin picking! I heartily recommend one for any F-Style player!!
  2. Re: What’s the nicest mandolin you’ve ever seen?

I had the privilege to play a Monteleone Grand Artist recently. It was a beauty that sounded great also!

Re: recommend strap for F style?

I highly recommend Harrison Straps in Woodlawn Va. (Near Galax). He customizes them to your size and personalizes them with your name on the strap if desired. Try it, you might like it! I'm betting...

Re: XT we barely new ya!

IMHO - until D'addario makes the XS strings in a heavier gauge, I will continue using XT's 11.5 - 41 on my '99 Flatiron Festival F.

    Re: Another pick-hold question..

I prefer to keep my hand closed but not clenched like making a fist or anything. I can't imagine having the same control if I let my fingers hang down. However, there are some great players who don't...

    Can I get that on a t-shirt?
  8. Re: Article: New Music from Acoustic Disc - The Tony Rice Unit Li

On his original tune (Wyatt's original), I'm sure he plays lead. It sounds like he's playing lead on several other cuts also.

    Re: Mapes Strings

They definitely have the 11.5 gauge. I recently bought a custom set 11.5 16 26 41. My experience may not be typical, but they sounded great when I first put them on my '99 Flatiron Festival F, but...

    Re: Little Rock Getaway

This tune can be a handful. I've been "learning it" for several decades. Recently with the extra down time due to the pandemic/quarantine, I have had more actual practice time and feel like it's...

    Here's a great video:

Copy into your browser if you can. It's a great version by Ralph Carr. He starts out with it at an uptempo speed then slows way...

    Re: XT D'Addario Mandolin Strings?

I have tried one set of the XT75 strings. The gauge is the same as my favorite EXP75 : .0115 - .016 - .026 - .041 The feel was a little different almost a flatwound feel compared to the EXP's. The...

  16. Re: Can you help me identify this bluegrass song?

There are at least 2 additional versions recorded of this song:

    1. CD titled "Cullen & Mickey Galyean & Friends" (no label)

    2. CD titled "Born Into Bluegrass: The Songs Of Cullen Galyean" (on...

    Re: What is this chord?

Ah, perspective makes all the difference. Nice. Theoretically it could be used in a certain context labeled as one chord and something else in another.

    Re: What is this chord?

That makes sense. Try playing it and see what you think of the sound. I like tinkering with jazzy sounding stuff and find places to use it. It helps keep it interesting I guess.

    What is this chord?

    Can anyone name this chord - A E B F# (1st - 4th strings)?

I have used the chord but don't know what it is actually called. It almost seems like A9 maybe? Not sure what difference the F# makes.
