Re: Blues, Stomps, & Rags #44

These two sides were recorded on 25th October 1928, not in the 1940s. The accompaniment is described as "unknown mandolin" and I think from listening to the vocals and accompaniment it is highly...

Re: Blues, Stomps, & Rags #40

I love that Clara smith track - she was a great blues singer. In addition to the mandolin and guitar there is supposed to be a kazoo backing her but it sounds more like a swanee whistle to me.

I read the thread on 17" mandola strings with interest. I have a mandola with a 19" scale length tuned cgda. What strings would folk recommend for this instrument? (It still has the original strings...

Re: listing of rock songs w/mando

Offhand I can only think of two number one hits featuring mandolin - Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" and (only four years earlier) Petula Clark's "This is my Song". Can anyone add any more?

  20. Re: Favorite Electric Mandolin Albums or Artists?

U Srinivas played a five string electric mandola and although you may not want to play in his style you might like his sound. There are plenty of YouTube videos to watch.
