  1. Re: New Apitius Club Jazz Mandolin acquisition…

Truly incredible stuff! Would love to see a 15+ inch scale length 5 string version of this with a floating pickup!
  2. Re: New Apitius Club Jazz Mandolin acquisition…

    Re: Tab writing apps

I write all the sheet music and tablature for MandoLessons in MuseScore and have been very happy with it.

  4. Re: 19" octave mandolin - tune as CGDA

Sometimes you can widen them out a little using a pen or other cone shape to gently make the loops a little bigger.

I was fearing the day this was going to happen. I actually downloaded the "all files" tabledit zip a couple weeks ago. It's a shame to lose that amazing searchable database, but here's a link to a...
  7. Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?

Thanks! Mine plays in tune all the way up with no intonation issues, but I got it used so I don't know if it had work done previously.

    Thanks,

  8. Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?

    Double post, sorry!
  9. Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?

I'd buy one of the eastmans. I put mandola strings on it and tuned it GDAE and it sounds and plays great!

    Thanks

  10. Re: new string gauges for octave 018T

    For GDAE I do 46 32 22 12 or 13, use a .60 pick, and play pretty heavy handedly.

    Re: Mandolin Oddities

Three times if you count the tritone, still not a great success rate.

    Re: What makes Chop?

I think Brick is speaking specifically of the tonal characteristics in the build of a mandolin. Perhaps some builders will chime in or you could repost in the builder section.

    Re: What makes Chop?

I suppose since a good chunk of the sound of a chop is percussive, one has to taken into account the atonal characteristics of the instrument too... Fun to think about.

    Re: Northfield Airloom Recurve review

I've had a green recurve for a while and echo a lot of what has been said, great protection, lightweight, classy, excellent storage.

    Re: GDAD Tuning

I use GDAD almost exclusively on CBOMs and tenor guitars. I've even made a little GDAD video series to try and help people get acquainted with the tuning.

  25. Re: 22.75" scale length 6 string guitar to DGDADA or CGDAEB

Thanks for the info Folded Path. My reasoning for the shorter scale is to get that high A. Honestly the tuning this eventual instrument will end up in is likely DGDADA, the short scale making that A...
