    Re: Schertler Preamp Review

Buying matched gear is a very good way to go, and probably worth the money. Schertler engineers know what they are doing. I have the same situation with my Dazzo guitar pickups and SunnAudio Stage 1...

    Re: One more banjo question

I'm already a social pariah, got that down good. It was quite hot here yesterday. I have a detached studio and had the doors closed. My wife asked me why and I said for your protection. She said,...

    Re: First Mando Buying Advice

Quality of the lower end of the Eastman line is quite good. Big strides in the market have been made in the last decade.

    Re: Help with budget mandolin.

it's hard for us on this side of the pond to fathom what things cost in Europe. The base line default mandolin will be the Kentucky KM 150 or an Eastman 305. Both I'm sure would be double your budget...

    Re: One more banjo question

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I told you, another rabbit hole. There are at least four Bart Reider banjos at Gryphon right now. But this is a mandolin forum, so I suppose a lurking is in order. But I just...

    Re: Cords on the ground

I have short cords running to floor pre amps, then long XLR cables from there. Two more XLRs for mics. So I end up with four XLR cables going to the mixer. I run them side by side across the stage...

    Re: One more banjo question

Any opinions on the newer Pisgah or Bert Reiter banjos? My total lack of knowledge scares me off the ols stuff, plus my budget would be minimal.

    Re: One more banjo question

I already have shimmed the neck with a business card. Plays cleanly up the neck now. Glad to hear the ringing is a common issue. This claw hammer business is fun.

    One more banjo question

I got my cheap open back banjo's neck crack glued and have been playing it. It has a ton of ringing overtones that muddy up the sound. I had a micro fiber cloth handy so balled it up and stuck it in...

    Re: Eastman MD515 tailpiece replacement

If you are going to keep the Eastman, I'd get a James.

    Re: My Pava

When I bought my first good mandolin, my Silverangel, it was mainly a financial decision, the used SA vs a new MT. Saved over a thousand dollars. Later, I was able to play these side by side and...

    Re: I fear

I went down to my local hardware store and they didn't know what a claw hammer was, but when I said it was for banjo, they showed me a sledgehammer.

    Re: DYN-M Preamp

Here is an observation from one who often does sound for an open mic. We have a nice SunnAudio pre amp we use on everything but the Taylor ES equipped guitars. We can make pretty much any piezo...

    Re: My Pava

The truth is, an MT gets you most of anything anyone really needs in a mandolin. Wants is another matter entirely. I've held MAS at bay by starting another build.

    Re: I fear

I had no idea when after the repair, I couldn't get the outside strings to stay in their slots, so I ran down to Griffin. Frank Ford was there and asked what I had. I replayed, either a banjo or...

    I fear

What, you ask? I fear I've slipped down another rabbit hole. I was just strolling through the forest when I tripped over a banjo. It was the kind that transports you back to the dawn of steel...

    Re: Cracked banjo headstock

OK, I decided to give it a go. Basically used a small clamp to open the crack, liberally brushed slightly thinned titebond wood glue along the surfaces, cut a six inch piece of garden drip irrigation...

    Re: First Mando Buying Advice

All the valid arguments for A styles aside, if you want a scroll, you want a scroll. I've found no amount of logic to change this. Certainly if you don't care, an A is the dollar for dollar champ.

    Re: Flatiron N1 vs K2

I think variety is a very good thing. Flatties aren't too damaging to the bank account either. The 1N I played was a memorable instrument I probably should have bought.

Re: Rover RM 75 on eBay and reverb

That is the most subtle sunburst I've ever seen. Of course with that mandolin, you'll pick like a pro.

People get paid to write like that.

Why would they want to encroach on Kentucky territory?

    Re: Cracked banjo headstock

No, I'm going to add it to the growing list of repairs I've done. I went and traded my 199.00 Michael Kelly for the banjo with cash my way. The guy was happy to get a mandolin to add to his upright...
