    Re: Bill Bussman passes

I ordered my Old Wave oval back in 2018. When I spoke with Bill on the phone, I mentioned that I was about his age.
"In that case, I'll have to hurry!" he said, and we both laughed.

    RIP, Bill.

    Re: Help identifying a Wegen

I agree with others that it's an M150. The grip holes likely make it a custom order.

I also suspect it's an excellent mandolin pick ;)
  4. Re: Joining the Girouard club - commissioned a build!

    thanks Jill!

I played a Goodall guitar with a Port Orford top several years ago and it left a lasting impression ... I remember it as warm but punchy. That seems a little contradictory, but that's...

I'm trying to keep up with Jill, so here's her mandolin's sibling ...
I think mine is going to be a burst top and an amber burst on the top & sides.

    Re: Wegen Pick

I love the M100 for what I play, mostly jazz, classical, and Celtic.
He also makes a custom M120 that you can order directly, or from Artisan Guitars.

    Re: Stewmac Tuner sale

I totally agree. As a consumer product, they're a horrible rip off.
I thought about getting a newer replacement set, but really, why should I need to do that?

    Re: Northfield A5 Special

the top on the Model M is Englemann, the A5Special is Italian spruce. to me, that might be the biggest difference, tonewise. I'd expect the Italian spruce to be a little punchier.

    Re: Again with the picks

    Tony,
the best pick depends a lot on your instrument and style of playing

I think the Dunlop variety pack is a good place to start looking at different materials and thicknesses:

  25. Re: Relearning to Read Music - a tale of Anxst

I started working on both of Daniel Sellman's Bach books a few months ago. Once I get a handle on a piece, I prefer to use regular notation. It takes less space, and helps me focus on the timing.
