    Re: Alvarez A900 F style

First, Have you played it and how does it sound? You could also check the top thickness. The best Alvarez I played was a Japanese model I bought around 1978 and it was either an A-700 or 800, which...

    Re: Which mandolin to buy

Of those two imports, with mandolins in the same price range, I'd prefer a Kentucky. On another personal level, I've never liked the sound from an oval hole mandolin. I have always preferred F-hole...

He smiled. Laughed a little. He's a very amusing guy with a good sense of humor.
  4. Re: Gibson Mandolin Warranty Service & Repair

    Re: Strap Recommendation

I've noticed that when Earl Scruggs was with Bill Monroe he wore his banjo strap the way that Bill wore the mandolin strap. With Lester he also wore it over his right shoulder same as with Bill. But...

Re: Are People Buying Less Mandolins Now?

Just like anything else, I've matured and mellowed with age. Heck, I'll be 70 next February. Everybody slows down eventually.

    Re: Strap Recommendation

That has never happened to me. I wear my strap over my shoulder. Exactly the way in which both God and Bill Monroe intended for a mandolin strap to be worn.

    Re: Feline String Change Caution

I have never had an issue with the strings in the can. However, both of our cats do want to play with the new strings prior to me putting them on the mandolin. So, the door to the music room gets...
