Re: Can you recommend a good chord book?

Not so much a chart but it can help to get the chords where you hopefully can’t lose them. :)

Re: Can you recommend a good chord book?

Everyone’s different, but how about learning where all the G’s C’s and D’s and maybe A’s are on the fretboard and then their thirds and fifths -which are always in the same relative position. Same...
  3. Poll: Re: Poll for the Song A Week Social Group Week #528

    Phew!
    Thanks Gelsenbury.
I voted on this one just because it had a foreign sounding title, I did try to find it with Google.

    Luckily it’s a beautiful tune too. :))

    Now I’m wondering about...
  4. Re: What do you do when you're Just. Not. Feeling it?

If I don’t feel it, I take an hour off.
I put on a pair of shorts and the anxiety is already building up.

Then I go for a long run, often make it an hour and a half.
    Get back, rehydrate and set...

Re: Happy ending for stolen mandolin

Well hopefully the honest, elderly gentleman has a really weird secret life with a lot of strange friends who don’t like musicians.

Then he’ll at least get a percentage of the movie rights.

Re: French Folk / Fiddle Tunes

I came across another little treasure Martin, it’s an old soft backed book of popular French Folk songs.

Most around 1900’s, some are... well I mean, quite diverse, the lyrics of some being almost...

One of MandolinCafe’s closest guarded secrets, you can even post half a tune.

    Re: Fingering Technique

To start with I had certain specific ways to do this based mainly on FFcP system and working vertically across the fretboard but now I find it’s easier to practice all the different combinations and...
  9. Re: When did you realize mandolin was your primary instrument?

A little more than a year ago I was just about to buy a paraglider and my daughter asked me why I’d stopped playing the Rogue mandolin we have. I told her why.
-Well why don’t you get a really nice...

    Re: If you jam . . . .

I was thinking, if you’re in a group of senior guitarists maybe there’s plenty of harmony already.
With that age group hearing and therefore rhythm could be a issue at times, but with a mandolin...

    Re: Alternate tunings?

I guess if you did this, put a C course on and removed the e course, then you have CGDA but REALLY low.
Then if you put a capo on the 7th you have an octave mandolin again.

    I’d be curious to see...

    Re: If you jam . . . .

Good question, that’s one of my difficulties sometimes.
In order to play a double stop you really need to have the fingering on the previous note to be set so that you can easily slide up or down...

    Re: playing partner{s]

That’s interesting, I was wondering if there’s some sort of software way that the person who’s ‘leading’ the jam has their signal time stamped? That way all of the different distances could be evened...
  20. Re: Staining spruce to avoid blotches and unevenness

Haven’t tried it on an instrument, but with painting you can use really dilute stains and get a blotchy area to become very uniform -though it does take time.

Once the document is validated and Gibson has photocopied the info, do they need to actually pay out the 59,000 to buy the document?

    Jack Charlton RIP.

Jack Charlton helped England win the (soccer) World Cup in 1966. I remember my Dad telling me how important that was when I was seven years old.
He had a great sense of humour too.
    Really sad day.
