    Re: Cracked neck block

Pretty much how I thought using counter sink screws and dowels. The neck would cover the holes. Tempted to remove the back. Maybe should it fail again.

    Cracked neck block

Ouch, the neck joint failed and the block is cracked. Any definitive way to correct this along with gluing. Also, hide glue, Titebond, or System Three epoxy? Thanks

  6. Re: Contemporary Christian Music with Mandolin Solo???

King of My Heart has a Celtic feel to it. Great place for for an intro and solo for violin or mandolin. I usually kick it off and play along with the melody in the second verse.

    Re: Thoughts on abbreviated pickguards

    I liked the abbreviated style, 5 - 5 1/4” x 2”. A midsize is good to, 5 1/4” x 2 1/8” - 2 1/4”. Pins and or screws are sufficient alone, without a side bracket, to securely hold the pg in place

    Re: harmonic dampener grommets

Just about anything you want to use will work. I’ve even seen scotch tape used in a pinch. I’m the past I did some ebony ones using Velcro to hold them in place.

John, what’s your opinion of glueing the bridge down with hot hide glue and using a Bridge Doctor on an inexpensive guitar? The doctor would relieve the stress tension for the glue to hold.

  18. Re: Screw-mounting a pickguard(instead of pins)

I use M2 screws and Allen wrench. You can find both at Ace Hardware. Iíd also recommend finding a 6Ē drill bit. Metric is hard to find so I think a 5/64Ē should work. Bosch has the 6Ē bits but...
