    Re: Longer bridge screws

Little Known Fact: We (Cumberland Acoustic) stock these #5-40 set screws in four different lengths: 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", and 1". They all accept a 1/16" Allen type wrench, which we also have in stock.

    Re: Identify Cumberland bridge

Once again, kind of hard to tell, but I don't think that is one of our CA bridges. The tell-tale thing to me is the base. What we call the "cove cut" on the top edge of the base is quite a bit deeper...

    Hello Dan,

Identifying a Cumberland Acoustic bridge can be difficult, but here are a few things to look for...

    Re: New Bridge?

It's great to see all of this feedback on our Cumberland Acoustic mandolin bridges! I don't have a lot to add, but I could certainly bore you to tears with all of the unsolicited feedback we have...
  5. Re: check out this Gibson Adam Steffey 2002 at elderlys

As a matter of fact, I was hanging around at Gibson when Adam was working with them on this model. His request was that the light spot in the middle of the sunburst be "no bigger than a coffee cup."...

    Re: Large Thumbwheels?

Well, since so many Café folks have used our bridges, I'll chime in here and let you know that the thread size we have used on Cumberland Acoustic bridges is indeed #5-40. About 20 years ago, Charlie...

Re: F-5 pearl fret marker dot size?

FWIW, I use 1/4" dots on most of the acoustic and resophonic guitars we make. I started out using them on our mandolins too, but when I started making A-5 mandolins, I switched over to 6mm dots. They...

    Re: Homemade Thickness Sander

Funny the stuff we discuss here on MC, and how appropriate it becomes at times, even if it's a bit off the "Mandolin Trial". As fate would have it, I have somehow become the owner of one of these...
  9. Re: Have new CA bridge installed by luthier - expert opinion need

Well Tim, I don't know about that, but I do know that Roman notified me the other day via e-mail that he had received the replacement bridge I sent him. So now I guess we are waiting for him to get...
  10. Re: Have new CA bridge installed by luthier - expert opinion need

Okay, it looks like we are about to enter Phase Two of this ordeal. I just sent the replacement bridge to Roman. I forgot that it was originally a bit of a custom bridge, having a mandola bridge...
  11. Re: Have new CA bridge installed by luthier - expert opinion need

Hah! It looks like a couple of other great suggestions came in while I was typing my reply above. All good stuff.

Also, I took another look at your picture. I agree with Adrian, that saddle is...
  12. Re: Have new CA bridge installed by luthier - expert opinion need

    Hi Roman,

Man, I hate seeing stuff like this! We work hard to make these bridges "just right" and then sometimes stuff like this happens.

Some of this has been covered, but here's my take on...
  13. Re: Ebony log submerged in salt water for many years

I'd like to get my hands on some and make some CA bridges out of it. You know, just to see whatever difference it might make. Maybe even get David Grisman to endorse them, and call them the Salty...

    Re: F model mandolin plans/specs

+1 on Adrian's plans. I had my set laminated. I made a set of mahogany frames for them and mounted them to the wall in my shop. I use them for reference on a very regular basis. I also have both...
  15. Re: CA Bridge vs stock bridge: A/B comparison (w/ video) For scie

    Hey Bill--

Great job! It's really satisfying to see your results. There's hardly a week that goes by here at the Cumberland Acoustic shop where we don't experience this same thing on the mandolins...

  17. Re: Grass Valley (CA) Father's Day Bluegrass Festival

I'll be there, probably spending most of my time either watching the stage shows, hanging out at Camp Spam, the Music Caravan booth, and probably a bit of time in the Luthiers Pavillion. I won't be...
  18. Re: watch this-famous last words(Redline A content)

FWIW, I think Myles is one of the most accomplished mandolin players I know of. If I could play RHB like that, I probably would! Keep in mind, he was primarily a violin player until a couple of short...

    Re: Rosewood bridge vs Ebony?

Interesting thread! Over the years I have made traditional style adjustable mandolin bridges out of a variety of woods. This thread caused me to dig deep into my tub of "Misc. Mandolin Bridge Parts"...

    Re: Truss Rod Question

Jim is right. I am currently deep into a batch of close to 100 two-way truss rods for various customers and stock. One more won't hurt, I guess. If you'd like me to make one for you, let me know. I...

    Re: Selling a Mandolin

Interesting thread. Especially for me, as I am the owner of RedLine Acoustics! Great feedback, by the way, both for Kevin and myself.

Re: Repairs cost more than my mando?

I agree with Paul. If the neck IS warped, and there is no truss rod, you might be stuck. However, on the subject of bridges, I realize our bridges might be "a bit much" for certain grades of...
  24. Re: Maximum Height of Loar-Style Randy Wood bridge

JonZ, I have posts that are 3/4" long. Standard length ones are usually around 5/8". If that extra 1/8" (or 3.18 mm) would help, I'd be happy to send you a pair. I also make taller bridges, should...
