What type of music do you play?
The slots on my tail piece screw heads are rough and snagging on my pants. What is the best way to make these smooth?
Tunepal works for Irish. You may have to play the notes I don’t know that it will ID from a recording.
Strings were always Straight Up 11.5s
I changed strings to a couple of different brands since to see if it helped and it has not.
Greetings. Apologies if I posted this previously. Has anyone had luck in adjusting saddle height to improve sound and projection?
A mandolin I own and love(d) was in need of a refret so I sent it...
I would say it s time to go play some mandolins.
The amazing thing to me is how much profit they generate when they go through consignments repeatedly. I’ve tracked a few instruments over the years that resold 5 or 6 or more times through dealers...
Plumbers tape.
Some could be dogs.
It looks nice but very expensive.
I have used it on my instruments for years. I get longer life from the strings. I don’t like coated strings.
You may need to tune down to C and capo up.

What pick and strings are ya’ll using?
I have used a 57 and the optional foam windscreen so I can get right in top of the mic without dinging my mando should I bump it.
The windscreen.
I had a PARA Di and the Red Eye sounded much better. Try a Red Eye and compare.
Does anyone have a preference over J74 strings?
Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center is an awesome store! They do not do much in the way of mandolins or luthier based acoustic instruments. Tons of great electric guitars and amps and acoustic...
FWIW I would think you would want a 12 fret oval hole design like the Gibson H-1 but in a mandolin for a similar sound.
If you get a 57 buy the optional screw attached windscreen. You may need to get your Mando very close to the mic and this will prevent you from bumping into the mic. You also may find it will help to...
