    Re: Amplifier for electric mandolin

    Off Topic (pot pie)
4 Chicken thighs, oven cooked at 350F ~1:30hrs. Cool and pull meat, lightly salt
Make stock with bones and skin (for use in sauce / freeze extra)
    Simmer 1/2-cup of stock (when...

    Re: Amplifier for electric mandolin

I use a Fishman Loudbox Mini for both acoustic and electric, then use pedals to get the dirt and tone for the e-mando. But also throwing out a +1 on the Bose S1 Pro because that is just a useful amp...
  5. Re: Electric mandolin interfacing; what approach to take?

Same situation with a louder band has me using a Gibson EM200 8-string electric. After some experimentation (still on-going) have settled on using an EHX OD Glove (OCD clone) overdrive pedal and a...
  6. Re: A likely contentious opinion on electric mandolins

Late to this thread, but I've been playing a Gibson EM-200 for about two years now. It gets taken to gigs where we're going to get loud, like this weekend's St. Paddy's Day madness.

    Does it sound...

Re: A7 chord out of tine

Also wondering about the Uke tuning in use here, and assuming that A7 chord is a one-finger shape, the issue could easily be the action at the nut being slightly too high and affecting the open chord...
  8. Re: Buying an instrument you have never played

Twice have bought mandolins 'blindly'. Once was a trade situation for a Mid-Missouri M-4, so had very few concerns and that mandolin is just what it claimed to be, a good-quality simple-build...

Re: Performing in a sport coat

Dressing for gigs is part of the event. Venue could have chosen a Spotify stream but they booked a live band. So, I'll show up looking like someone in the band. The orange sport coat does not see...
  10. Re: Why not a domestic, hand built instrument instead?

Someone once asked how much has gone into these instruments, and I confidently pointed out the budget fits well within the price difference of my Caravan and their Infinity. Also, that van is the...

    Re: What are your roles?

All I wanted was to be the 'dumb mandolin player', but two years in my roles now include: Playing keyboards too, hosting practices at home, creating band flyers and social posts, carrying PA...
  12. Re: What Pickup/Pre-amp pedal are you currently using?

Weber Bitterroot (Yellowstone-spec'd) > L.R. Baggs Radius > Fishman Para Acoustic DI > Fishman Loudbox MINI (simple mixer duties to add keyboards). Might actually start leaving the Loudbox behind...
  13. Re: Let's talk small, high-end, acoustic amps

Played a rooftop gig for Opening Day and decided to run a Bose S1 as one of the Main Speakers (other was a 1000W Mackie). It absolutely ROCKED! This was the first time putting it up on a stand and...
  14. Re: Best Mandolin for Traveling From Sea Level to High Desert?

This is a bit 'off topic' but it might help you. I used to live in SF and would travel to the East Side (High Desert) regularly, with stops up in the Sierras for the High Country air. Yep. Mandolins...

    Re: Which portable amp?

I gig regularly with a Fishman Loudbox Mini (non-battery) and also have a Bose S1 Pro for certain gigs (works better with keyboards, so is useful). I really enjoy both of these amps very much. The...

    Re: Slow, sweet songs

Revisited Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum's Tramps and Hawkers driving back from hiking Red River Gorge. No mando in this vid, but I'd happily steal every one of Laurie's fiddle fills! Also worth staying...

    Re: Shure sm57

Bought the first SM57 in '86 and another around '92. Have always kept them in their bags too, so they are in perfect condition even after so many decades. True friends at this point.

    Random aside:...

    Re: Shure sm57

As mentioned there are numerous threads on this, all worth the read. At some point, each of us go down this rabbit hole and find our spot on the chessboard. Trick is to not lose your head! :)

    Re: Trigger Finger (s)

July 2020 I snapped the first knuckle tendon of my left ring finger, Mallet Finger.

Doc said I'd heal, but I asked for an X-ray and referral to a specialist.

About 2 months in a splint and...

Re: Is It Possible to Fake It?

Cafe Member Duuuude once took me to a Swing Jam just as it got going. The host called Misty—a song not known to me—and off we went. Started a solo using basic pentatonic moves and very soon realized...

Re: Do You Baby Your Mandolin?

Same here, bought quite the 'player' of an instrument with every scratch and ding pre-loaded for the road. That Weber has served me well for almost 20-years now, while the more recently acquired...

Sherry, I replied to your PM so go ahead and send over the PDF to me via email. I'll convert and we can all see what happens.

Edit: So, Jim above has discovered the core issue. PDF - as a document...

This is my balliwick! Since you have Acrobat Pro, take a look at the Export To function under the File menu. Acrobat does a great job of exporting to PowerPoint and a decent job exporting to Word.

Re: ? about Dunlop Primetone picks...

I do wish Dunlop had assigned a bit more distinction to each of the sizes/shapes/materials because there is a a lot of diversity inside the 'Primetone' tent. On finding a perffered style, I bought a...
  25. Re: Mandolin player crossing over to guitar

I am 100% percent with Niles on this subject, that our 'mind's ear' should be the guide, or rather the glue that brings all the instruments together under one roof. I'll play mandolin, piano, guitar...
