Re: How did you feel about your new build Mando?

A year or so ago, Eddie Blevins built an octave mandolin for me. Not a big deal? Maybe and maybe not. While Eddie has an impeccable reputation regarding mandolins, he had never built an octave. ...

    Re: Mandolin Stand Recommendations

It looks like it's built more for "foldability" than for securing an instrument.

    Re: Music Streaming service question...

I have satellite radio but I'm becoming disenchanted with the bluegrass channel. They seem to assume that if it's acoustic and has a mandolin in it, it's bluegrass. A lot of it is not necessarily...

    Re: Mandolin Stand Recommendations

That's true but it's a minor drawback for me. I have the mandolins on stands at home. I live alone so there's not a lot of foot traffic. The Ingles even handles my octave and it's almost 10"...

    Re: Mandolin Stand Recommendations

I have three of the Ingles stands and I love them. I got them from International Violin and, if I'm not mistaken, it only took 3 days for them to arrive and they're competitively priced.

    Re: Ashokan Farewell Tabs anyone?

Gosh, guys. All he wanted to do was play a song. ♫ :)
  8. Re: Mountain Acoustics Luthier Invitational and Eddie Blevins

Eddie built an f-style octave for me. It's an amazing instrument. It was his first octave but he sure did it right.
  9. Re: How much does a Northfield actually cost to make?

    You make a good point.

If you patent that, the price of pencils will double. ♫

How much did it cost to build that $175,000 Loar Gibson?

Re: Man I need a good tuner...

I'm not gonna whip out my phone on stage.
  14. Re: Slight frustration when changing mandolin strings

I need to change strings, too. I think I'll take a nap.

Re: Man I need a good tuner...

    Change the batteries.

I have D'addario's and even the freebie Reverb tuner. The D'addario's are at least 5 years old and I've never ever had any trouble with any them. I do keep a small stock of...
  16. Re: Slight frustration when changing mandolin strings

Hemostats are really underrated. I have used them a couple of times when changing strings but I use them a lot in the shop. They make good heat sinks and wire holders when soldering in tight...

Re: Do people ever change their strings?

It's not difficult and it does't take long but I'd rather spend a weekend in jail than change strings. Having said that, I do it every couple or three months.

    Re: Replacement Pickup for Mandocaster

Seymour-Duncan made a telecaster-style mandolin pickup for me. I don't think they sell directly to the consumer. I special-ordered mine through Sweetwater and it was reasonably priced.

Re: 4- vs 8-string electric mandos

For a long time I was a bit of a purist when it came to mandolins. I played only acoustic. They had pickups but only because I move around on stage a lot and playing to a mic didn't work well. ...

  23. Re: Any one have opinions on the best amp for use with a Bagg Rad

I have a Gibson F4 that I sometimes use with an LR Baggs. In that case, it's usually plugged into a system. On very rare occasions, however, I've plugged it into my Roland 90W amp and it sounds...

Re: 4- vs 8-string electric mandos

It's not a serious consideration but string bending is easier with single strings. ♫
