    Re: Harwood mandolins and guitars

    HI Noteworthy,

Does either catalog include Clifford guitars? I have a terz parlor guitar that was dated by someone to be from around 1895. I'm wondering if the Clifford brand was offered from...

Re: Stepping up from the 1K bracket

I am not sure of your budget, but two great choices which would be:
    Collings MT (A)
    Northfield F5S (F)

An MT was my first really good mandolin. Many have come and gone, but the MT is like a...

  6. Re: Lowell Levinger with Little Steven & Disciples of Soul

Thanks Mike - I'll bet the Asbury Park Press mentioned the Springsteen sighting. We were in the balcony so I could not see Lowell well behind the piano and back-up singers.

    As soon as he appeared...
  7. Lowell Levinger with Little Steven & Disciples of Soul

For an early Mother's Day gift I surprised my wife, a huge Steve Van Zant and Springsteen fan, with tickets to a Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul show in Asbury Park Wednesday night.

Re: Seeking song suggestions, cool groves

Watson's Blues is fun. Check out the version by Don Julin and Billy Strings.
  9. Re: thinking about getting a mandolin looking for advice

Putting aside the handmade / factory discussion, a preowned Collings MT with wide nut option is a great choice.

    Re: Smokey Smelling Mandolin Case

Find volcanic or lava rock odor eliminator - it comes in a mesh bag. Works great.

Great catch! The last line "one of the best luthiers in the business" sure is something to go on. I hope he responds.

    I appreciate Jim weighing in!

Just a bump to see if anyone has info on the origin of this Blackwell mandolin.

    Thanks!

Re: Blackwell Mandolin - Looking for Info

Thanks Jim. The seller had no info and Googling didn't yield any info.

It probably is a one-off, though Mr/Ms Blackwell was pretty talented - it is pretty well made, fit and finish are really good.

Blackwell Mandolin - Looking for Info

    Hi All,

I recently acquired an F5 with Blackwell on the headstock. There is no label or other markings. Does anyone have any info or ideas on its origin?

It has some bumps and bruises, but...

Re: Thomastiks on a Collings MT?

I tried the TI Starks on my MT and was not thrilled, though I love TIs on my A2 oval hole. Every once in a while I try different strings but always go back to Daddario J74s. I once tried Daddario...

    Re: Resale Value of Northfield

"The wear on that mandolin is “honest play wear” and shouldn’t effect price."

I believe the wear shown will affect the price - especially the nicks, scratches and dings on the peghead overlay.

Re: Mandolin in NPR Tiny Desk Concerts

You are welcome Caleb - they are one of my favorites also. We caught them at the Tarrytown Music Hall recently and they were outstanding. See them if you can; the new album is great.
