Afraid I can't be of much help. That tune is right up my alley.

This is awesome and speaks to me on several levels. I have worked in the addictions field for many years and clinically supervise a large program in Oregon. Our clients can be some of the smartest...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

I was pondering how to say similar things. It is that 3rd point that really stands out to me. He is constantly working to learn and improve. I talk with Matt fairly regularly still, and he is always...

Re: NW String Summit vs Darrington

Between String Summit and Darrington it is really going to depend on your music and party preferences. Darrington is largely traditional bluegrass based. String Summit is going to have a much broader...

Re: Andrew Marlin and Crew in Portland

I had every intention of being there, but spaced it. I was not very happy with myself. I did speak with a certain luthier from up that way who got to spend some time with Andrew after the show. There...

I have only tried Soliver's armrests. I now have 2 of them and am quite happy with both.
  10. Re: ISO Recs for Bluegrass Mandolins in the $900-1.2K rang

A Howard Morris A5 goes for $995 new. He often posts in the classifieds and will build custom. Great instruments! A quick search of Morris will bring up dozens of threads.

  12. Re: You all downloaded the free mando summit app from Northfield

I had the volume issues and phone getting hot (Samsung S9). Not only was the volume weak in the app, it killed the volume on my phone away from the app. Uninstalled and all was well. Too bad, I like...

I came to suggest McKenzie River Music but see that has been covered. Troubador Music in Corvallis carries Kentucky so you might check in with them. We also have some great builders in Oregon....

The album release shows in Portland were great. Billy is great about mixing it up. It can be all out psychedelic madness one tune and straight forward bluegrass the next.

Re: NMD: Howard Morris A-4 #430

Congrats! Sonny makes a helluva mandolin. I have had #393 for about 18 months. I just got a new Ruhland 2 weeks ago and the Morris is still staying. In my opinion there isn't anything close in value...

    Re: Eastman 315 MD & Loar LM-520

I have played them both and owned a 520 for a while. While plenty will disagree, I much preferred The Loar 520. It was more traditional sounding which I like. Maybe I got a good one, but it only...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

I brought #41 home today. I will post a comprehensive review and sound clip later, but this mandolin is great! Less than a week old, it is loud, balanced, with very clear bell like noting.
