I'm glad this topic came up. I've seen one advertised locally and have been wondering.....
That headstock with the pear overlay is just awesome. Thanks for showing the closeup.
Well, I can see how that would slow down your posting :)
A tad off topic, but here's a question, then. What do you bring into the woods for playing music?
Took ya 5+ years, betcha your next 1K will be quicker ;)
Wow, Bob, those are beautiful! I love that you are using local resources. I bet they sound great!
I kind of wish my fingers were more like his for when you have to hold down 4 strings at a time.
The Wegen is TF120. On Zach's recommendation :)
I also got a Primetone 1.4 Grip pick, which I like, too, but maybe not as much.
My problem as I am learning to strum my mandolin and not hold my...
After reading this thread, I bought some new picks as well as some strings from Strings and Beyond. I didn't get a sticker though :crying:
(Zach, I bought your Wegen pick that you like for...
If the spouse is suggesting the shelf, then there are no worries ;)
I guess if you like it and it is all fixed up by your luthier, and is only $100, there isn't any reason you can't have both
So my clip on tuner died last night, and I reviewed this thread for suggestions on another one.
I settled on UniTune from Sweetwater. Just wanted to let you guys know, if you need one, it is on sale...
Of course, all bets are off when they start counting the cases :)
That's a nice shirt. I've been doing silkscreen graphics for years, and always appreciate good work. I'll look him up :)
I like it!
I'd say this situation right here falls under "nothing ventured, nothing gained".
It might not be, either (beyond your abilities). Armed with a copy of the Rob Meldrum ebook, a few simple tools, and some good advice right here, many things are possible :)
I'm going to go look for those Montana books, because I like Tony (and Anne) Hillerman, C.J. Box, and Craig Johnson (NMC).
[QUOTE=Eric Platt;1803449]If you can find it, get the collected Silver John short stories. They are much better, IMO.
I have it waiting. I'd bought that and The Standing Stones a year or so ago...
I feel like your interest may be more toward biographies and what I might call "fact books", but if you like novels, I recently read "The Mandolin Case" by Tom Bibey, which I liked quite a bit, and...
Very nice music and imagery. And a darned good question to boot.
That's beautiful and amazing. It was hard to believe it was one mandolin until I found a video and watched him play.
I recently signed up for Mike's Artistworks lessons.
His mandolin is so cool, with the honest play wear.
"This is tricky," he said, on the video, "I make it look easy." "I'm a professional"

Yeah I saw the pictures of yours when Zach was looking at it. Needs more work than mine did for sure. Very cool that you are rescuing it :mandosmiley:
Sometimes I'm holding my mandolin just right, and the whole thing just wakes up and sings. The whole instrument is vibrating and I can feel it as well as hear it.
