  1. Re: What's the origin/lyrics of this song: All Around the Mountai

    Very cool!

Thank you guys so much for the links and the missing lyrics.
  2. Re: What's the origin/lyrics of this song: All Around the Mountai

Allright, to save folks the time to type the lyrics, here's what I got:

As you can see basically the bit missing is the end of the 1st verse (and repeated at the end), otherwise I hope I more...
  3. What's the origin/lyrics of this song: All Around the Mountain

I found this song a while ago on a CD from Ill-Mo Boys:

and here are some different guys playing the same tune:

    Re: Transposition tool

That's the so called German system, where B is H and Bb is B. Apart from Germany it's also used in slavic and nordic countries.

I have blueprints for both Western and German variant.

I have zero experience with selling stuff and I don't think I could manufacture this in large quantities. That said, I could probably send out a couple, provided shipping from EU isn't too...

    Transposition tool

    Hi,
I recently made a little tool that helps me to transpose songs more easily.
I thought I'd share that here in case someone finds it useful.
I called it Transpositor, here is a demo gif.

    Tremolo question

    Hi,
I occasionally try to practice tremolo alongside other exercises.
I noticed it goes quite a bit better when I rest my forearm against the mandolin (somewhere behind the bridge towards the...

Re: mandolin without strings, fb marketplace

To me the cigarette butt on the ground right next to the item in question is the fine credibility-ensuring cherry on top that seals the deal.

    Re: Healing power of mandolin

From the title I thought the healing power was going to be psychological, but this even better :)
  10. Re: Budget A-style Octave: Is there such a thing?

It sure looks like there's quite a few options after all.

I also found a local maker who builds (besides $3k mandolins) 'economic line' guitars under $1k. Perhaps he'd be amenable to a request for...
  11. Re: Budget A-style Octave: Is there such a thing?

Thanks all, there's some great tips here...

I've also found a Johnson MA-550 on ebay for $700, is that a good deal? EDIT: probably not.

OMs by local makers start just under $3000.
  12. Re: Budget A-style Octave: Is there such a thing?

Yeah, I was wondering why luthiers make guitar-bodied OMs, it seems to me the unqiue mandolin look is kind of lost then. Is it to get more volume out of it? Is the sound of the A/F-style ones, even...
  13. Budget A-style Octave: Is there such a thing?

So, I'm intrigued by OMs. They sound really beautiful to me. But they're typically kind of expensive.

So far I've found two less expensive options, but they're a bit questionable...

    One is the...

    Re: Impress Your Friends

One of the reasons why I picked up mandolin instead of buying a new piano was that I didn't want to impress anyone. Or feel like I should try to, anyway.
  15. Re: Czech old jazz-swing compositions with Tenor Guitar

The first one is an adapation of an old folk song. I have no idea how old the adaptation is but the folk song itself is at least 200 years old, likely more than that, I'm not sure if anyone really...
  16. Re: Northfield Workshop Flattop Octave Mandolin

Is it just me or is it looking very plain, as far as visual design goes? I mean I'm sure it's a great instrument musically, but I can't help it, at a glance it looks like an average guitar...

Re: Need specs for F Style Octave Mandolin

Have you tried inquiring with some luthiers who produce these octaves?
From the top of my head these guys apparently make A- and F-style octaves, I suppose you could ask them. Presumably it...
  18. Re: Trouble following this Whiskey in the Jar rendition

Ah, ok, glad I'm not going crazy :)

I'm practicing the song just on my own now...

    Thanks!
  19. Trouble following this Whiskey in the Jar rendition

    Hi guys,

Beginner question here, I'm trying to follow this Whiskey in the Jar tutorial by Jesse Ferguson and I'm having a hard time keeping up when he plays the full verse in the last third of the...

    Re: Campfire travel Mandolin

My 2 cents: This summer I carried my $600 mandolin through several hiking trips, including one in Georgia (not the U.S. Georgia, the other Georgia :) ) and another one where I only slept in a hammock...

Re: New mandolin and selfmade accessories

Heh, honestly, the strap is probably more durable than the hanger itself :) It's made of soft wood (paulownia) and is pretty thin around the screw.

I like the idea of a prongs-style hanger,...

    New mandolin and selfmade accessories

So, this is a sort of an addendum to my previous thread where I asked about buying a new mandolin ...
