Re: Mike Marshall Finger Buster question

Another book, which compliments Mike’s very nicely, is Getting Into Jazz Mandolin by Ted Eschliman. It simplifies moveable scale blocks. They require stretching, so the exercises, are an excellent...

Re: Mike Marshall Finger Buster question

It’s kinda like physical therapy. It’s tortuous but will leave you better off in the end.

Re: Mike Marshall Finger Buster question

This book, in particular, inspires me to become a better player. I like that it is structured with a logical progression. I've improved steadily with regards to left hand stretches, to the point of...

    Re: Frets worn -3 months?

Mine looks similar after a short time (6 months) .... I play a lot, so it's not really a surprise.

What's the name of the demo tune in the first video, please?
  6. Re: End pin keeps popping out of my Collings MT -- glue it?

I know this is an old thread, but I've done the teflon tape and I find it to work only initially, and then the pin starts to fall out again after a while.

    Re: Buzzing when fretting

As a new mandolin player, I find I have to take care not to put sideways pressure on the strings as they will move and then a buzz will be created. All my notes fretted individually have decent tone...

    Re: Do you mandoke?

Yup... Using band in a box and creating my own chord progression sets. A great way to learn/improve, in my opinion. I also change up the keys so I don't become key dependant. I'll also play along...

    Re: Left Handed Hogwash?

My initial thought was to wonder if the author was referring to playing an instrument 'upside down' so to speak, rather than using a left handed instrument with the bass courses at the top.

Re: Should I buy this tenor?

KY 7 could be the model number, rather than a serial number.

Re: Speed neck on Kentucky Km250

My mandolin came with a satin finish that remains fast after many hours of playing. I deliberately chose the model with the satin finish for that very reason. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't...

    Re: Beginners Thoughts

Yup... Been at it almost 40 years on guitar, and the last couple of months on mandolin. Still loving it and constantly learning, no matter which instrument I pick up.

    I don't know, but it's amazing!
  15. Re: How a mandolin changes with age? New vs middle age

The most simple answer is that the tonal range of a mandolin is higher than larger instruments, therefore, the larger surface area is not required to produce the lower tones. Lower notes produce...

    Re: Quickly detachable strap?

In my opinion, the simplest way is to use a quality leather mandolin strap. Fit it securely to the instrument, and just leave it there. There is at least 1 thread that explains numerous way to do...

Re: Sweet Spot on the Mandolin Fret Board

The sweet spot will move slightly as a string is fretted. Unless you play the whole neck regularly, the spot will be within a smaller area and as long as you get it close, on the average, it will...

Re: Any ChordPulse fans out there?

Chord pulse is an ideal tool. I Like the adjustable key and tempo and it is very user friendly for chord entry. It is definitely worth the price. Ireal pro is good too, but I wish it had more pattern...

Re: how long should i practice?

I pick up the mandolin every chance I get and spend a lot of time exploring new chords, usually 3 finger combos and 2 finger progressions. I pay special attention to playing notes and chords cleanly....

    Re: Homemade Leather Mando Strap

I did mine very similarly to Ivan's. I used some Latigo leather straps ½" called saddle string. I thought it might be to narrow but it turns out to be just right.
