If you know the chord...
I recently took a handful of lessons (via Skype) with Wayne also. He is very good and very knowledgeable. We worked on theory, technique and some specific solos. I had my most recent lesson last...
I write code and play music (I'm sure there are plenty of others). I can loose myself in pursuit of either one.
The two are similar in many ways: patterns, structure, organization, creativity,...
I've got the same mando (MT A style, same color, same finish). I bought it used with the same issue. I ignore it.
A friend recently gave me an electric guitar effects pedal. I pulled out my long-neglected Fender Strat and played around with it.
I never played electric guitar as seriously as I have acoustic...
I had a similar issue on a Kentucky mando. The A strings were very finicky. I lubricated the nut slots with some graphite powder and the stability improved immensely.
Yes.
All public open jams have been canceled in my area. I have gotten together with friends a few times for smaller, outdoor jams.
Nothing like the 2 to 3 jams a week that I was doing...
I know several patterns for the major scale and pentatonic scale.
Yet, I've been struggling to remember the arpeggio patterns (and transition between them for chord changes). It seems like it...
I developed pain in the fretting hand. I wrapped my wrist and hand in an ace bandage at night for a few weeks. It made a big difference.
Thanks for your rendition of Paradise. One of my favorites to play on mando and guitar (in D as well).
You gave me some ideas :)
Get well soon.
This !!! ^^^^
I bought an inexpensive mando, and had the same issue. Being a guitar player, I was pretty sure it was the nut height. I got it professionally set up and that made a huge...
I use one called "The Metronome by Soundbrenner". So far it's the best I've found. Has many more features than I need. Very smooth and the user-interface is very nice.

Gettysburg is a little further east of Del Fest. They have one in May and one in August.
The May festival (5/14 - 5/17) is the week before Del Fest (5/21 - 5/24).

Same experience here. I've been playing mando for a few years, but going back to the arpeggio exercises that are presented in the beginning this book has been eye (and ear) opening.
That worked for me! Just bought the digital version.
When I use that code, I receive:
Invalid Campaign ID "IMPROV3"
So true ...
I've met many great folks, and learned about other playing opportunities. I've even been asked to fill in at some gigs (who? me ?).
Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying to improve and be the best that I can be. I think I'm still on shaky ground.
I definitely don't want to discourage beginners (I was there). It's gratifying...
I play bluegrass and folk-type music, and I'm fortunate to live in an area where there are plenty of jamming opportunities.
The skill level of the other musicians runs the gamut from beginner to...
Nice job!
Gives me something to shoot for.
Welcome !!!

Long-time guitar player as well. Picked up mandolin a few years ago. I try to practice (play) both daily.
I do think that playing the mandolin has helped my guitar playing, and my ear in general.
Has anyone worked out the George Jackson tune Dorrigo on mandolin? A fiddler friend of mine introduced it to me. I've found it to be quite challenging (I'm still working on it). Some unusual...
I really dig this kind of stuff. It makes for great practice exercises and helps in building breaks.
This is what I often end up doing, and I'm trying to expand beyond it. I find myself fingering intervals of the chord and basing my break off that.
I feel that's it's a crutch, and that I should...
