    Happy Anniversary Mandolin Cafe!

    Scott-

Congratulations! You and the Mandolin Cafe team have created something really special, and valuable. I know I'm not alone in appreciating how much this means musically and socially. One of...

    Re: Me and Bobby McGee

Corbin, really great editing and playing. Really enjoyed your vocal arrangement and singing too. Interesting, tasteful and true to the song.

    Re: Builder or Company

Another perspective, We have 3 mandolins, all from individual builders, all fabulous. None of which I played before buying. All of which I'm more than happy with. At the same time I've had mandolins...
  4. Re: David Grisman - 'Home is Where the Heart is'

Not to mention Herb Pedersen, one of my all time favorite harmony singers and banjo players. The whole band, material, mixing, energy. Just stellar.
  5. Re: David Grisman - 'Home is Where the Heart is'

Correction to my earlier post, the album is "Here Today."

    Sheesh. . .
  6. Re: David Grisman - 'Home is Where the Heart is'

Yeah, this is such a classic CD set.

Another classic of that general time is "Home Today." One of my all time favorite bluegrass albums.
  7. Re: Campanella, Red Diamond, Northfield, Collings experience

Great story. TME has excellent service.

I bought a mandolin from Jordan last year, essentially "over the phone," and it was a very good experience and outcome.
  8. Re: Looking for Music Documentary Recommendations

Great idea for a thread, and great lists of recommendations. I've seen several of them, but many I haven't now want to.

    I'll add:
    - Muscle Shoals
    - The Eagles Documentary

    Re: Repair Estimate too High?

An experienced luthier will know what it will take to repair something and usually give an accurate estimate, sometimes factoring in their workload. They may also say whether an instrument may be...

Re: Has Waverly Jumped the Shark?

I have Waverlys on one mandolin, Rubners on one, and Gotohs or something else on the third. The Waverlys are smooth, as are the Rubners. I guess I'm not that picky about tuners, wouldn't change out...

Really great tune. Paul Shelasky is an amazing musician, and darn funny dude.
  12. Re: What F5 is Tim O'Brien Playing at Greyfox 2015

Definitely looks like a Sam Bush.

I noticed Brian is playing a Gibson guitar. Wonder if there was some sort of Gibson promo or recognition going on that day at the festival.
  13. Re: Gibson opposes Collings' headstock trademark registration, ci

Wonder what the luthiers and other craftspeople at Gibson, the heart of the company, think about all this.

BTW Gibson, as you take all these naps and during your episodes of delirium a whole...

    Re: Off Matt's Bench/New Ruhland

If one wasn't spoken for I'd be tempted to do whatever I could to resolve that. They're that good.

    Re: Interview with Tom Rozum

And I love my "Banjo Scream" t-shirt. A classic.

Tom's great, an amazing, understated talent.
  17. Re: STOLEN!! Martin HD28 mint condition and Gibson F5 L mandolin

Really sorry to hear about that, hang in there.

I'll echo what others have said about getting your instruments back.

Regarding your briefcase and laptop, I've heard of them just getting...

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

I think so. It's very nice, may be one of his first F5's with his peghead design.
  22. Re: Open Back / Old Time Banjos - Comparisons to Mando Builders

We're in a golden age of luthery. I think these are all fine open backs, roughly in the same price range, maybe with Pisgah and Rickard (generally) slightly less. But you probably know all this....

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

I had the same reaction. The Kimbles I've heard don't sound bright. Great tone, full and focused, but at least not what I consider bright. Maybe those in question were brighter, relatively speaking....

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

I just looked at the Kimble at TME. I bet that gets snapped up quickly. Very nice. NFI, etc.

    Re: Kimble or Duff F5?

Both are great. I've never played a Duff, but have been around Kimbles. There is a very good reason for their reputation. Go with your gut.
