Re: post a video of yourself

Thanks Jo, that’s such a great tune, and I like the authentic feel you give to it.
    Well done.

Just an idea, but you could post yours to Song A Week under the song title and some of us 7/8 time...

    Re: Random note generator

Sorry if I’m not explaining this very well.

I’m trying to learn to read notation but I have other skills that impede this. And I’m actually a bit dyslexic.

Yes ear training is what I’m doing,...

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

Good luck with the operation tomorrow Jill, knees can be very painful, I feel for you.

Just to hopefully make you feel better, I tell you that one time I fell backwards off the (tall) roof of a...

    Re: Carols from the world

Really nice, Ondrej, has me motivated to learn some carols this year I especially liked the Austrian tune, Still, still, still.
I was wondering, could you post these to the Song a Week group here?...

    Random note generator

Iíve looked around for a thread on this on the site here, hope someone can help.
Iím looking for an app that works on an iPhone, or even online that produces a note from G3 up to B5. I Ďd like to be...

Re: Shout out for Ronny Harrison straps

Here’s a photo from a site, nice, these are Ronny’s straps, I believe.
The question I’d ask, though, is what’s with the wear on the guitar under the strings -someone practices without strings? ...

I’m really sorry to hear that John. I didn’t know.
Hope things are getting better, and thanks for all the wonderful tunes.

Re: How to play mandolin faster

Iíve found the cleaner I play, the faster I can go. Coordination of the two hands is a big one and, strangely enough, the strength and precision of my fret finger muscles at lifting off the...

Re: Leather straps: flat or braided?

I’d probably save the leather that you have, use it for something else.
In Europe you can pick up really nice, sometimes strangely fancy 1970s and 1980s leather belts at second hand shops. Often...

Re: How to play mandolin faster

Dude you DO play fast! :))
I like the one about getting the fingers in the right spacing if possible 3-4 notes in advance. (mainly the shifting middle finger)
    Nice vid, thanks.

I found the stretching exercises at the beginning were not painful, just a lot of hard work.
There is a sort of twisting motion around the vertical axis...

    Re: Random Hippy Painting?

I just found this painting on a guitar in my house.
Personally I don’t like it. It makes the guitar look cheap.

I’m thinking maybe I need to lock up my other instruments when there’s a full moon....

  23. Poll: Re: Poll for Song a Week Social Group Week #510

Anyone know what the timing in this jig is called, it seems sort of stretched out -I like it, I just wondered if there a name for it?
-when the timing becomes more like 123456, 123456, etc.
