Re: Jazz 5 Roberts/Tiny Moore Mandolin

Hi Lynda, so your dad was Glenn Tarver?

Jay Roberts made a few different styles of electric mandolin. The "Tiny Moore" is the best known and it's the Bigsby copy. The Jazz 5 looks a little...
  2. Re: First Time Cafe Seller - Returns Cost Allocation

    Yikes. Yes indeed they did.

I just sent a buyer a $25 refund on a $525 purchase, for reasons I needn't specify here, and PayPal debited my account for the entire $25 -- in the past, that would...
  3. Re: Classical nerd roll call: Lyon & Healy archtops

Well, I paid an embarrassingly small amount in a Craigslist transaction. The mandola has an ugly and poorly repaired headstock crack, but it's been stable for as long as I've owned it.
  4. Re: Classical nerd roll call: Lyon & Healy archtops

Style A mandola, Style A and C mandolins
  5. Re: Shocking revelation! Lyon & Healy Style C on eBay

Anyone tried looking inside your L&H with a mirror for a side-stamped serial number yet?

Wait, weren't they $15 last time they went on sale?

Re: Kerman Mandolin status as of 2019

Tim, you don't have to answer this, but it would be helpful to know what the cost of a Kerman is.

Re: Kerman Mandolin status as of 2019

So, a friend who's probably the best classical mandolinist I know personally ... who's on call for a particular major US symphony orchestra whenever they need a mandolin player ... some years ago she...

Re: Sean Ash 5 course mandolin

Looks cool, but if you're the one selling it, it needs to go in the classifieds.

Re: Rare Gibson-made Capital Electric mandolin

Hm. Well, no truss rod cover there ...
  14. Re: Amazing Musical Instrument Company Electric Mando

Well, I was looking at it too ... I probably would've tried to get a luthier to add a magnetic pickup to it. I think I recall seeing one other one that had been modified in that fashion.
  15. Re: Amazing Musical Instrument Company Electric Mando

Well, there isn't much else to know. The instrument has just a piezo pickup, not a magnetic one. I think the body is the same one Amazing used for its violins, although of course the neck is...
  16. Re: What information is there about JWW Mandolins?

    That sounds right.
  17. Re: Shocking revelation! Lyon & Healy Style C on eBay

Heck, I've sold a tailpiece cover alone for that amount. That is certainly one way it could go, presuming the buyer isn't paying someone else to do the work.
  18. Re: Shocking revelation! Lyon & Healy Style C on eBay

    Wow, it went for $818.08!

I hope it was bought by someone with repair skills who will fix it because it's the right thing to do ... but at that price there's almost no financial upside.

Re: Fender 5 string electric mando

"sent [you] packing"? Jeepers, these are 20-year-old instruments with very distinctive custom tuner buttons, and I'm just a li'l ol' emando-flipper.

The people to ask would be luthiers who do...
  20. Re: Shocking revelation! Lyon & Healy Style C on eBay

Well, it is still at $325, so who knows whether it will go much higher before it sells?

It's not a money-making prospect for anyone who doesn't have the necessary repair skills and some time on...

    Re: Amy Helm chord form

VERY good! Yes, 5-string players in particular should consider thumb-hooking when appropriate.

Re: Need help identifying Mandolin from Ukraine

Definitely Greek. I can make out Thessaloniki on the label; the luthier's name appears to be S. Anthomelidi.

And it turns out that Mousika Anthomelidi still shows up as a business listing in...

    Re: Mandobird revisited

Heh. I just missed one on Craigslist in Indiana that had been upgraded with a pair of Bartolinis!
