    Re: Cords on the ground

Yep I have long cords that I carry too, it's just that I rarely have to use them. I also carry backup's for most cords, then backups for the backups.

    Re: Cords on the ground

I like to make cords short and use them as needed. I have XLR cords that are 1ft. long, and 5-7ft. long. I carry around a few of these and use them most of the time. It's rare to use a full length...

    Re: One more banjo question

Br1ck,I have a Gibson trapdoor from the 20's with a Goldtone 5 string neck that I am considering selling should you want to upgrade. I won't discuss it here, but you can PM me if you are interested.

    Re: Solving unexpected problems

Solving unexpected problems is what repair is all about. The more creative you are at figuring out your problems is what keeps this interesting, not everyone can do that.

    I think, if memory...

    Re: One more banjo question

I have played a couple Pisgah banjo's. I like the persimmon tone ring, and 12" pot.

    Re: Cords on the ground

I route the cords out of my way, especially the XLR's and instrument cords. I don't want anyone stepping on them. Repeated stepping on a shielded cords will add to the natural capacitance of the cord...

    Re: One more banjo question

I like a piece of foam under the neck end, very lightly touching the top. I like some ring, but not as much a most banjo's have.

Re: Old Gibson A mandolin copy?

In 1971 I saw several great bands at the Crater fest for free. I had just gotten out of the service. Much bigger than a stadium, 5 stages going at once. How does that relate to $200 today, doesn't...

    Re: John Cohen 1932-2019

Was just mentioning John and NLCR on our radio show last week. Sad to hear he is gone. We seem to be losing too many these days.

Re: 1915 Gibson A Pickguard issue

I am not sure lubricating it is a good idea, you don't want the wood to swell more and make the nail tighter.

    Re: eBay sales tax

The new law may decide who should collect sales tax. I am talking about USE tax. If you don't pay sales tax you are supposed to pay use tax, which is at the same rate. You send it in at the end of...
  13. Re: How do you test the qualities you're looking for in a Mandoli

There is the fact that a mandolin sounds different out front, but if you play by yourself then how you hear it is the only thing that matters.

    Re: eBay sales tax

By law if you get something from out of state and don't pay sales tax you are supposed to pay use tax (which is the same) and submit it with your tax return. Few people do it and it has not been...

Re: Would you sacrifice tone for playability?

Great setup, low action, normal 11-41 strings. Easy to play, great tone, Best of Both Worlds. Why would you settle for less. Ease of playing can be had with a good setup, I refuse to compromise on...

    Re: Solo Performance Gear

If you still use the Schlertler pickup on your mandolin, from your other post, the Baggs pickup won't work well at all. You may want to get a K&K to use with the Baggs. I am sure you will be happy...

    Re: DYN-M Preamp

The DYN-M is not a piezo type pickup and will not work with those type of preamps. The input impedance is way different. You would need a a Schertler preamp preferably, or something that would be...

    Re: Cracked banjo headstock

I would rub in HHG with my fingers while trying to open the crack as much as possible. A banjo doesn't have much tension, If it doesn't get in very far the glue will at least keep it clean so, if it...

Re: My KM 1050 vs other Mandos

A proper setup will make it louder, if it is richer you will notice it more too. Have you checked the relief? Mandolins are finicky and need a good setup to sound their best.

Fitting the new saddle by clamping to the old one will get you close, but fit it to the top of the mandolin properly before using it.

Re: Would you sacrifice tone for playability?

I think the reason the GHS pure nickel come in heavier wound strings is the lesser tension. Not sure, I was in the initial prototyping and trial and several of us ask to make the wound strings...

Re: Would you sacrifice tone for playability?
