    Adele - Skyfall on mandolin

I am able to play Skyfall accurately in the original key (Cm) because my mandolin is tuned to F C G D (whole step lower), so I'm playing all my chords in the shape of Dm.
    Notice the correct chords...

Re: Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

I think the web-app is pretty much finished! Or I hope it is, anyway ... I've spent altogether too much time on it the past week or so in fine-tuning, and writing up the text descriptions.

    Here's...

Re: Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

I'd never even heard of tetrachords. That was extremely interesting, thank you.
A bit late for me to learn, but it'll be cool to link to in my app.

Re: Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

mandocrucian, there's no need to be condescending. My post was a self-burn, I think you missed that. Talk about cheap shots ... read what I wrote. I said "people have been learning modes like this...

Re: Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

lol I get what you're saying, but it wasn't aimed at Mr Niles, it was aimed at the textual format itself.

Modes tend to be an advanced topic - as well as Mr Niles' page is written it is not an...

Re: Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

Lol looking at a bunch of boring text isn't particularly intuitive or interesting for me, I made my app specifically for the visual aspect of seeing the pattern and understanding intuitively. My app...

Re: Pachelbel's Canon and Gigue in D

lol yep, it was never written so slow as it is commonly played. You can hear the difference in violin sustain in the Academy of Ancient Music recording that I linked, that's as close as you'll get to...

The Beatles - Blackbird on mandolin

    Re: Why use capo?

As with most tools in any trade, the use of a capo is a needlessly controversial question. Those who don't care to use it sometimes think nobody ever should, and those who do use it sometimes think...

Re: Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

It's meant to be a representation of piano keys, one octave rolled up in a circle. The bars aren't really a necessary detail, but I liked the visual - you can hide them by clicking the center of the...

Theory: "cheat sheet" for Western modes

Here's a little webapp I've been working on for some time (version 3 now, rebuilt from scratch.)

If you've ever struggled to understand what modes "look like" and how they are constructed, this is...

Re: Pachelbel's Canon and Gigue in D

    Cool, xD
My main gripe is how slow the Canon is usually played in most situations hahaha. After I heard the Academy of Ancient Music recording, literally any slow performance grates on my ears, like...

Pachelbel's Canon and Gigue in D

Bet you didn't know Canon in D had more to it, did you?

Point 1) the Canon isn't meant to be played as slow as it's represented in popular media. I literally can't listen to popular versions of...

  19. Re: "Bistro Fada" from Midnight in Paris (2011)

    Thank you guys!

I found it on the MuseScore website. Downloaded that and took out the unnecessary stuff and changed a few notes here and there to make it easier to play.
