  4. Re: How did you feel about your new build Mando?

In complete honesty, I have had a number of mandolins custom built. Or to put it another way, i ordered directly from the builder. I guess i have simply been lucky but I have been pleased each time.

    Re: Ellis A5?

One of my favorite Mandos in Nashville that I played very recently is a 2016 Ellis A5. It is exceptional.

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

Thank you Matt, that is a fine offer:) As much as I enjoy Montana it looks like i won't have to travel that far to sit and watch a real musician play number 33. Happily I have learned that one of the...

John...how would you compare/describe the tonal qualities of the Ellis A5 w/the Nugget and Sorenson sound, from your experience?

I have been wanting to post a recording of the new Ruhland F5(#33) that I have. Is it possible to post just the sound file without the associated video from Dropbox? I'm fairly certain no...

The Griffith Loar A5 made a visit to a local Portland Oregon builder's shop recently. A truly fascinating and coveted mandolin. Good pick Rush.

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

I am curious how folks define "dark tone"? That appears to be the direction Ruhland #33 is heading. I've not had an instrument with what I would describe as dark tone. It's definitely attractive and...

Re: Why no narrow nut options?

A few years ago I owned a Nichols Road F5 with a 1" nut, flat board. It played well, sounded very Gibson-ish. Very underrated builder imho.
