  1. Re: Cheap electric mandolin- Eastwood, Kentucky, Gold Tone, or...

    I’m loving my generic/unbranded Mandocaster:

No idea what pickups these are, but they have good response over all 4 courses of strings.

Re: Home Amp for 5 String

I’ve got a THR-5a (the acoustic one), and love it for my acoustic-electric ukulele. It’s got a clean electric setting and I’ll be using it with my Mandocaster. It’s a great little amp, and if needed,...

Re: New to the electric world...

Bought used off Reverb - it doesn't seem to be an Eastwood at all; not sure what the pups are, but for sure not the standard fare found on these types. What really sold me was the finish - that...

    New to the electric world...

    Hey all,
with my Apollonio 'zouk back at the shop, my Mixter 10 string mandola still being built (after 2+ years) and not wanting to even play my ukulele, I took the plunge on what is an Eastwood...

    Apollonio Bell 'zouk

    Hello all,
Been awhile since I've posted here, but you know, sometimes life gets in the way of other things. I gave up my aspirations of being a luthier after having my landlord bust me trying to...

    Re: Bouzouki purchase advice.

I'd steer you to Nikos Apollonio. He's been building and playing since the late '60's and his pricing for a new instrument is very competitive. I've got a bell bodied 'zouk (the left side instrument)...

Re: An open letter to Classifieds users

I felt guilty. I only was trying to sell my banjo so I could try to climb out of the fiscal hole I'm in. I did just now, after reading this, donate $20. I wish I could afford more for the ad I...

    Re: 10 string Mandolin/dola

I have a 19" scale and a 23.5" scale in the works. Both likely citterns.

    Re: Sobell Bouzouki-Worth it??

This is just my opinion, and I have never played instruments from any of the above, but I'd venture that for that amount of money, you could get a carved top from any number of luthiers that would...

  13. Re: Mandola body, 19.5-20 inch scale neck - please give your opin

My next instrument build is 19" scale length, and I'm hoping it sounds as good as a Sobell ;)
  14. Re: Rim/top joints on induced archtop instrument

This is a body closer to guitar sized, 18" long about 14" wide at the lower bout. Likely a light arch, say a 15' - 20' radius.

Thanks for the input Jim - since I'm not using HHG for this (I...
  15. Rim/top joints on induced archtop instrument

    Hello all,

I was considering doing an induced archtop (since carving a top at this point is still beyond my skill set), however, having doubts about beveling the rim where the angled top would be...

    Back in the building saddle

    Howdy everybody!

After a long streak of 'life adventures', I finally have the breathing room to start on a new instrument. So far, I've gotten the back and top plates matched, joined and glued up...

That is not a new design, Nikos Apollonio has being doing his take on that for years and years.

Re: Teak and Spruce: The Apollonio Cittern

I'm working with Nikos, we're both of the opinion that I can do this repair - not that I'm not still going to file the claim. Just having bad luck with citterns, I guess.
