Re: 4 or 5 string tenor

I use FCGDA for 5-string tenor...with the "F" a full step below an octave mandolin "G". Nut width on my electric is ~1.5 inches.

    Re: 5 String Archtop Tenor

5-sting provides a low F below CGDA. For me, I like the frequency range closer to 6-string guitar, and transposing between mandolin (GDAE) and 5-string tenor (FCGDA) is really easy. Most of my...

    Re: 5 String Archtop Tenor

    Re: 5 String Archtop Tenor

I have a few 5-string tenors with that scale. I use FCGDA and find it really accessible. Straight 5ths across the strings.

Re: Andy Statman Bought A Loar F5!

If my memory is correct, Andy made a funny comment at one of the Mandolin Symposiums that when he sold that Loar as a young man, he bought a really good stereo :)

I've done a lot of trading in the past from the classifieds here. I always found comfort in having a telephone conversation first.
  12. Re: Ranking old tenors (generally speaking) by brand?

I like my Nationals a lot, and rank them near the top. For wooden body, I have an Epiphone Beverly with a flat top (and f-holes) and arched back....Really sweet sounding with some cutting power. ...

    Re: Instrument Insurance Help

I've had one claim on on Heritage Insurance policy for some water damage. They covered the repair as well as loss of value. It was any easy transaction, and made the policy worth it.

Re: Are tenor guitars slightly evil?

I use either FCGDA, FCGD, or GDAE....I prefer the guitar range of notes, with the transferable mandolin chords/scales.

Re: Are tenor guitars slightly evil?

I gig more on tenor guitar than mandolin (country/western/swing), but mandolin is always my first love. Given the price, it's easier to find "deals" on tenor guitars and end up with a collection :)
