Thanks all that helps!
I just ran across a Gibson L1 archtop s#81508 fair condition. I have first chance through an estate situation. Any idea of fair market value?136777
That pick guard looks in very good condition to me for something 100 years old. Messing with will destroy originality and collectabilty which could translate into dollars lost.
Jim, I am! Bookmn, I certainly will. My wife was happy for me but she did mention that maybe I needed to thin the herd to make room for it. LOL! I just gave her the bewildered look and pretended...
Thank you all for the congratulations! She's definitely going to a good home. I was so surprised to find my wit has landed me in something other than hot water. :mandosmiley:
$450 is not unrealistic at all $100 quality cast tailpiece, Cumberland bridge $60, $65 quality tuners, frets, binding, inlay is over $275
. Finishing products NEW lacquer and sealer, dyes, lacquer...
P.D. if you do the math, it doesn't work. $450 for wood, hardware, finish ect. Take your over head, tools electric etc.. say $200. Now take whats left $350 and divide that by approximately 100hrs...
Fully adjustable tuners too! What more could you ask for?
That's why sunbursts were invented!
Is your bridge top on backwards?
Sounds like warrenty work to me, and I'm not sure I would consider VOIDING MY WARRENTY by doing any work myself. For example, paying $1000 for a mando minus the loss due to voided warrenty, minus...
Have you thought of buying one from Siminoff? He makes kits and necks for a 12 fret in both maple and mahogany.
Not a Monroe comment specifically, but I once heard saw an interview with John Fogerty talking about their music. He claimed CCR's music was just electric bluegrass.
You could probably get a basket case bowlback off ebay with a waverly cloud, kidney or clamshell tailpiece and working tuners for $25. With replacing tuners you need to take two things in...
Bruce, do you have one of the back too?
Not necessarily a scammer because they don't list contact info in the add. I do things on CL al the time. I NEVER list my phone or email. Living in a big city, I've found only 1 out of 10 responses...
The first year I had mine, I tightened the nut on the neck bolt twice. I never touched it again UNTIL I sold it 2 years later. If you glue the top to the neck, you might have issues if/when you...
The neck set is low on the kit but no need for a different neck. Just sand a bit from the heel to increase the angle and install an angled shim underneath the end of the fb.
Churches are not exempt and must maintain copyright integrity of a higher standard than other venues. My church sometimes pays up to 3 or 4 licensing fees per song per use. For example, 1 fee for...
A truss rod is to adjust relief not action/string height.
I've seen where aomeone had run a leather shoelace around the tailpiece which was then tied to the strap. Very low cost to do.
Find someone to take lessons from! You will learn more from you first lesson than you will in the first year trying to teach yourself.
So in other words, there is not much out there. I've tried Bluegrass Unlimited and always felt unrepresented as I live on the west coast and the adds and stories rarely cover anything west of the...
Hey everyone, I'm working on Christmas shopping and was wondering what your favorite Mando and Bluegrass magazines are and why you like them?
Do you have the Siminoff book or any of the plans out there? They should be on the plans.
