  1. Re: Red Haired Boy - Did Monroe ever record a version?

If you're just looking for a good version for mandolin, On Brian Bower's "View From Home" album is a really good version on mandolin. Brian plays autoharp. You can get it on Itunes. I think playing...

    Fun observation

A few days ago I pulled my Ibanez 524 out of its case, tuned it and and played it. I haven't played it for a long time since I've been playing my Weber Big Sky these past 18 odd years.

    I bought...

    Re: Is this Mike Marshall?

Thanks, I thought he was a DGQ member at that point, but it kind of looked like him other than the mandolin. That outfit was something else!

Re: Very best Monroe style player

Compton is great, but Butch Waller can't be overlooked. Go to Itunes and download Golden Gate Promenade. Worth your money!

    Grisman's new "David Grisman Sextet"

Curious on folks thought on the new Dawg tracks. I've listened to it once. The first tune sounds like James Bond with Dawg runs hidden in it.

    Re: Thile and Sutton

I was driving to work yesterday listening to the Bob & Tom Show and it dawned on me that hostess Christy Lee has the same name as Chris Thile. Wonder if she plays mandolin?

    Re: Top 5 albums (suggestions)

    I would say:
    1. The David Grisman Quintet - Self titled CD
    2. Jim & Jesse - Mandolin Work Shop
    3. Bill Monroe - Master of the Mandolin
    4. Skaggs & Rice
    5. The Dillards - Backporch Bluegrass

Re: Bluegrass Songs In a Minor Key?

There's a line in a Grisman tune about him always playing in a minor key. I think its with Sam Bush

Look for the posts on downloading the record that came with the book back in the day, to really add to it.

New David Grisman Quintet Fix Needed

I sure could use a new DGQ Cd to listen too. It's been a long time since the last one (Dawganova) came out. Or have I missed one along the way?

    Re: RIP Pete Seeger

First memories of Pete Seeger and having no idea who he was, were listening to the Dillard's Live Almost album when I was a kid and Mitch Jayne saying "Rodney bit Pete Seeger on the leg".

Re: Good starter Bill Monroe Album

I'd also recommend a non Monroe Cd from Butch Waller called "Golden Gate Promenade". It great Monroe tunes (for the most part), clean and available on iTunes. You won't be disappointed.
