A lot of valid points on mandolins that cost a lot versus the cheapies.If you are happy with what you are playing then who cares. I've played some of each and just love to play!
I'm Gona try doing this it sure sounds better than the way I've been doing it !! Might not be such a chore.

Growing up in the sixties my dad had a lot of the Louvin brothers records.we would play them for hours.I never saw Ira play an F style mandolin apparently he favored the A style

I would definitely agree there is a point where more money doesn't mean a better mandolin.I have an f5g Gibson that's about a year old and it sounds as good as some that are 6k and up.

I saw her perform a couple years ago near Mansfield Ohio.she is so talented for her age.I guess she is ready to expand her career by singing more.
I was in statesville last fall and went to Harry and Jeanes and they had a fair number of quality instruments.I had a ce ward mandolin that I needed info on.
You might find a used A style for 1500 but yes that's still twice the money he might want to spend. Northfield are pricey
If you like a good mandolin Northfield makes some really fine instruments.they are good quality for a Chinese

I just tried my first blue chip pick its a tpr 40 I'm hooked.but might try a 45 or a 50 the f5g really sounds great with the 40 but its the first one I've had.
