    Re: string gauge calculator

    Thanks Billy.

Thanks Hank, I had opened the loop before, just enough to pop the ball out. My eyes are actually older than the strings.;)

Thanks Nevin, I've done that before for a temporary...

    Re: string gauge calculator

    Thanks HonketyH,

Nifty tool, I was digging in, ready to compare different materials and realised it's all for nothing not knowing what's available loop-end.

    I've played mucked around with...

Re: Classical Guitar to Tenor conversion questions

Of the various vintage I've had half of the "full size" 15-16" wide bodied have had "full sized" headstock. The ones with smaller heastock tend to be narrower than shorter compared to their six...

Re: Ragtime arrangements on a Tenor Guitar

Port Kells Elementary is still standing, but the house in Clayton that we moved to in '73 which I lived in until adulthood was torn down last year to make room for a new school. Harder and harder to...

Re: Ragtime arrangements on a Tenor Guitar

Not so I think, my compatriot. Since this discussion has turned to folk music and roots/evolution of the song; you would have learned The Travellers version with lyrics by Sid Dolgay the mandocello...

    Re: Play better when alone

Try not caring. I found that by just playing brashly, singing loudly and carefree (maybe even trying to annoy) loosened things up. Maybe I don't play any better, but it's a better experience. That...

If I've learned one thing from sci-fi movies and TV, red light= evil. (Even the kid's animated The Land Before Time movies support this - evil carnivores have red eyes.) )

    Re: Hypothetical Wierd Question ?

I've seen a few (pics). German makers put out a lot of three hole archtop guitars in the 50's & 60's. I'm sure someone on the Cafe will have had experience with a three f-hole Lark. ..?

Re: Cheap & Cheerfull Tenor Conversion question

I was going to ask why you don't just get a baritone uke, but maybe you intend to use steel strings?

    Re: New Eastwood/Airline tenor coming

I can't think of any "tenor" hardware that could not be replaced using off the shelf "six string" parts (except strip tuners).

    Re: New Eastwood/Airline tenor coming

That's what I would have taken 'machines' to mean, but I don't get how upgrading is made simpler. Simpler that what? The only thing I can think of (aside from what they're on) that makes a set 'tenor...

    Re: New Eastwood/Airline tenor coming

Yes, I find the six string hardware looks kind of clunky.
Not sure what you mean by machines. ..? and I don't see why a tenor pickup couldn't be replaced by a six string pickup if you wanted to.

    tone guard

If it's such a great thing, and as many will say, a must-have, why aren't makers incorporating the likes into their builds (are there some?)? I get it, yes it works.

I have an archtop tenor that...

Re: Please help to identify this mandolin?

Re: Please help to identify this mandolin?

I have a 57 Ibanez round hole archtop guitar... with gold sparkle pickguard. They made "higher-end" blingier models and mando's along the same lines.

    I don't think this one's an Ibanez

Look like late 50's Japanese. Zero fret, headstock shape, F holes general aesthetic
  24. Re: If you always wanted one of those sunfish style mandolins

Looking at the two I can't help but see the early Simpsons (Tracey Ullman Show) and the tamed down later Simpsons drawing. Brash and then smoothed out and less likely to offend.
