I have been teaching full time over 40 years and I’ll attempt to answer. Keep in mind I don’t believe there are any “right’ answers to any of the questions, take everything with a healthy grain of...

    Re: Fret Size

I like the size typically used by Jazz guitarists on an L5. The are wide, fairly tall and I can feel much easier when I come in contact with the fret. On the smaller frets i have a tendency to push...

    Re: Monel strings

I also prefer the Mangan strings. Like the heavier gauge offerings. Have them on my Gil, A2 and Godin. Would put them on my Mann if there was a good C string gauge.

Re: the key of Ab on a 5-string ?

I have a original MicroPro and it has been a terrific amp. Works for both my Mann and Godin.

Has a great line out sound, and PA guys love that (many amps line outs sound like doggy doo).

Re: 5 string in jazz combo question

Era of jazz you are playing and what other instruments are in the ensemble are big determining factors. When playing 50s era stuff with piano players, I comp very sparingly. When the piano solos,...

Re: Barry Harris method for learning bebop

I highly recommend Barry’s weekly online classes, one for harmony and one for improvisation. 1 1/2 hours each. Best $10 I spend weekly.

I’ve been doing them since mid May and have well over 60...

    Re: Can you teach musicality?

I believe that you can become better at anything through work. You can sound really good with enough work.

  14. Re: why are some chords for guitar not listed in chord books for

Most serious players have worked out what notes are in chords (using music theory) and mapped them out on the fingerboard to find where they are. This process is WAY better than opening a book as it...
