    Re: Best suited cast tailpiece

Common, I replaced the tailpiece on a LM700 with an Allen and the screw and end pin holes were a direct match. YMMV
  3. Re: New (to me) Michael Kelly Legacy Elegante: I NEED More Info

I have an '04 MK Dragonfly custom flame that I bought new in late 04 early 05(not sure). Mine is made in Korea and is bound front and back, bound fingerboard and headstock. If I remember correctly...

Re: Mandolin Shopping in the Southeast

+1 on the June mandolin shop Campobello SC. Walter Johnson builds a fine mandolin and is a fine individual. There is a June F5 in the classifieds right now.

    Re: TKD Mandolins (TheMandoShop)

Well Johnny-Alien you finally did wind up getting a couple of responses to your question about the mandolins in question and they were favorable. I know there has been much controversy around here...

Re: What are Benefits of Solid Tailpiece?

I have, though only once. A friend had a '95 or '96 Flatiron F5SB that failed at the angle where it comes over the top of the mandolin. Tore about halfway across the width of the tailpiece. I...

    Re: String breakage when detuning

If I am going to let tension off of all the strings I always start with the E's and work my way to the G's. May be no logic or physics to it at all, I just figure it makes sense to take the tension...

Re: Loar type adjustable to Brekke?

Sorry folks. I am the one that originally mixed up the terminology calling the "Original" the "Traditional". Multidon you are 100% right on that. Thanks to everyone that responded. I am perfectly...

Re: Loar type adjustable to Brekke?

Thanks jedennis. I also am running Cumberland bridges on 2 of my mandolins. I was just curious as to other's experiences with the Brekke wedge type bridges as I have never owned one. Thanks for your...

    Loar type adjustable to Brekke?

Who here has tried replacing a Loar type adjustable bridge with a Brekke traditional (the one with the wedges)bridge especially on a modern build? I would be very interested in your thoughts on any...

    Re: Northfeild tail peice

I have the Allen tailpieces like that on 3 of my mandolins. I put the loop on the tailpiece post, pull all of the slack out and capo at the first fret. Once around the tuner post and then through the...

    Re: Headstock reconstruction. Aother

That is nothing short of amazing. The builders here at the Cafe never cease to blow my mind with the things they are able to build and restore. I so greatly admire their talents and skills.

    Re: Strange string problem

True to their word, just received the replacement set of EJ74's. Who can ask for better customer service than that? D'Addario certainly looks after their customers. Thanks D'Addario and George Santos.

Ok guys. Just got an email from George Santos at D'Addario. I think he is going to replace the set of EJ74's but he also requested the codes off of the individual string envelops which I regretfully...

    Strange string problem

Yesterday I changed the strings on my mandolin. I run D'Addario J74s exclusively on all of my mandolins and J17's on my guitars. I have never encountered any problems with the brand and love the...

  20. Re: Loar LM 600 with or without Cumberland Bridge?

My advice would be go ahead and order it with the CA. Robert is going to give the instrument a great set-up anyway. If you let him fit the bridge you won't have to go to the expense to get it done...

    Re: Jams in Greenville SC

There is a jam in Chesness SC on Friday nights at a place called Homespun Bluegrass/Gospel. Bluegrass gospel from 7:00 til 9:00 and after that secular or gospel bluegrass until 1:30 or 2:00 in the...
  22. Re: Kimble F Mandolin Lost in Los Angeles, February 15, 2016

Yeah, but after all, it was a Kimble F5. I doesn't make much sense for those of us playing $1000 dollar or less instruments to spend $600-$750 dollars for a case to carry that instrument in.

    Re: Pro Plec 1.5

I like the proplec in the the triangle shape well enough. They do tend to be a little harder to get volume out of compared to say a BC CT55. I found that modifying the bevel to closely match that of...

Re: Tone Gard in Case and Bridge Pressure
