    Re: Weak trigger finger woes

I got the reseller's sales tax exemption on eBay. But that meant I had to open a separate eBay account to be used for personal purchases. It's a bit of a headache to keep up with which account I am...

    Weak trigger finger woes

Could've had both of these on eBay in the past couple of days if I hadn't hesitated.

Re: Opera singer guitarist in need of help

You should ask the director and production designer if they're picky about you having a mandolin that's appropriate for the setting. If they're doing a traditional Don Giovanni set in 17th-century...

Re: Valuing a Gibson by Dr Lori

Boy howdy, that is a conundrum, ain't it? There aren't many A0s out there. I found one for one of our orchestra members years ago and she played it for a long time, but she's no longer with the...

Re: Valuing a Gibson by Dr Lori

Well, it could be a 1928 or later A0, in which case the pickguard attachment could be original.

It does surprise me from time to time how woefully ignorant antique dealers can be about musical...

    Northfield archtop guitar-bodied OM

Played one today. Oh man! Amazing setup (practically played itself) and great tonal response through the entire range.

Asking price was $4K, which is $3,980 more than I had on me.

Re: Hilary Hahn: Hearing her live

There have been improvising violinists as long as there have been violins. When two different violinists play a given concerto, they may play all the same notes, but there are still differences in...

    Re: Soares'y Electric Tenor

I've never played one of the tenors but I find them aesthetically unappealing. I had a Soares'y electric mandocello once and it was a low-quality budget instrument, but I suppose it functioned well...

I've always called it the vine inlay, but upside-down whale has a nice ring to it.

Looks nice, Andrew, haven't seen a 2-point from you in a long time.

Re: My Pas Washburn Lyon and Healy mandolin

Here is a violin shop in Suffolk, not too far away. Worth ringing them up and asking if they'll have a go; they may not care to do an appraisal but should be able to handle the repair:

Re: My Pas Washburn Lyon and Healy mandolin

The case is rather the worse for wear and is missing the original handle ... but that's to be expected, and it has protected the instrument from a good bit of knocking about.

    There's a fair...

Re: My Pas Washburn Lyon and Healy mandolin

Photos will help. Lyon & Healy Style A mandolins are prized by classical mandolinists, at least in the United States, and can be worth a significant chunk -- not enough to retire on, but better than...

Re: Eastman El Rey Video Review

Cool. I didn't notice the pickup being angled on the instrument I reviewed ... so perhaps that adjustment was made after my Fretboard Journal review.
