  1. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

As a matter of fact...there is a still of her towards the end of the final episode.

    You must be psycho.
  2. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

I thought one of the themes throughout the series was the cyclical nature of country evolving/morphing/blending with other genres, then eventually getting back to it's roots. If the series has any...
  3. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

OK. I just got caught up with binge watching Monday and Tuesday. The series could end with Episode 7 and it would be complete for me.
  4. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

I got turned off to country when I was a teen in the late '60's, and now I understand why - I was listening to the Nashville Sound. My interest resumed in the early '80's, but now I was focused on...
  5. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

Agreed. There is an interview out there of how he came into possession of Clarence White's B Bender Tele that kind of gives away his overall knowledge of the music.

    Re: Eastman Comfort Comfort

I'm curious about the varnish finish they're offering on the 5 series. Has anybody tried one of those? Impressions?
  7. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

So far this series is a 10 out of 10 for me. I'm learning so much about the various artists, their styles, and where they fit in with the history of our music.

    Re: Cords on the ground

Don't run your XLR and power cables together. Better to have them cross at an angle to prevent potential noise.

    Marty Stuart Mandolin Solo

Anybody happen to catch Marty Stuart's rendition of Orange Blossum Special last night? I knew he had guitar chops, didn't realize he is in top form on the mandolin.

    Re: Volume boost pedal question

+1 on the RedEye. I use mine at least once a week with usually treble boost turned completely off, volume boost for solos about 10%. Fits compactly into my case pocket along with a 10' cord. I...

    Re: Taj Mahal on mandolin?

I had read that Taj Mahal can bar a guitar from the top with his thumb due to his large hands. I'd love to see what kind of chording he can do on a mandolin.

Re: How do small bands do the finances?

I remember reading a Ludwig newsletter when I was a teenager that quoted a metric: Less than 2% of performing musicians make enough money to pay for their equipment.

    Chord Theory Question

What does it mean when you have two "notes" on a chord sheet together, such as G/F, G/E; and how does that translate to playing it on the mandolin?

    Re: Lefties Who Play Righty?

Me too. I write left handed and my left arm is stronger, but for almost all sports I'm right handed - except for boxing where I'm a southpaw. When I played drums I used a left handed kit because I...
