    Re: Favorite mandolin playing beverage?

The only time I really need a drink is during recording.

I do about 5 takes then stop, and jump up and down waving my arms around while hyperventilating making gasping sounds.

    Then when...

Re: Mandolin patch for Pod Go?

It really depends on the time of year.
And the weather and type of soil is another factor.
In the Spring it’s good to use a lot of nitrogen-based fertilizer for growth of leaves.
    Phosphate is...

Ha, ha, yes it was fun, I love the little banjolele, and the cycling too.

Re: What is that little instrument?

    Thanks JeffD,
I did a Wiki search for Mandalorian (I knew what it was, I was just curious about what it was… that I knew) and Wiki wanted me to give them 12 dollars.
I guess they figured that if I...
  8. Re: Instrument stand for Epiphone Mandobird...

It’s the lightness of the instrument, you can super glue a piece of lead to the back of the guitar holder, it’s not visible and helps the device to lock for guitars or tiny Keech banjos.

Re: Do I need a mandola?

One way to get around the chord transposition issues with mandolas is to learn all major and minor chords as five string chords (cittern).
Then you just shift any mandolin full, five course chords...

Re: Do I need a mandola?

    Take any old guitar:
Put the G string where the B string was. Tune it to A (or buy a slightly lighter G string).
Put the D string where the G string was, no change in tuning
    Put the A string...

Re: Playing a triplet over 2 quarter notes.

I used to count like this, it’s very effective, mainly I believe because it’s linked to the chest, breathing, voice and speech centres of the old brain -with a feedback loop via the ears. :) ...

Re: Going from mandolin to mandola, tunes

You can move up the neck a bit on the mandola to get out of the confusion zone near the nut.
Then you pick two roots an octave apart. Either four string to third or fourth to second.

    So you’re...

But, 'what’s the Chord Tab?' seems quite self-explanatory to a mandolinist.

    Re: What's this? 0-3-2-0

If someone in a bar shouted: Hey that chord you just played, what are the string numbers?
And you replied: Aah, the Chord String Numbers are 0230.

Or you could say: Dude, it’s a C major, work it...
