Re: compared to a Weber mandolin.

Tell us what your trade price is and if a F5-style is preferred. I would not suggest an Eastman superior to a Gallatin tone wise.

Re: Amplifying a violin in an electric combo

Best I heard or mounted is a Dazzo mounted with beeswax (pretty easy to install and remove) combined with a preamp or acoustic amp. Sounds incredible natural without elaborate EQ, very feedback...

Re: K&K Pure preamp issues advice needed

I used the K&K mandolin twin pickup paired with the K&K preamp for quite a while. Sound was good, but the pickup appears to be quite sensitive to handling noise and pick noise which is no surprise...

    Re: NMC Bass preamp

Maybe something like the K&K Trinity preamp will do the job: Tiny, runs on 9V battery, feeds pickup and internal mic.
  5. Re: Thoughts on an Eastman MD-515 Mandolin as a first scroll

    Great choice !

I recently purchased a MD515CC as a sub for my Ellis F% deluxe special, which I don't want to use on some gigs.
The MD515CC has rounded corners/bindings, feels great, had a perfect...

    Re: Best On-Instrument Mic

I would try it out and see what it sounds like. As far as I know Bruce Bartlett tailors the mic frequency response in the different models for different application. If so, there should not be to big...

    Re: Best On-Instrument Mic

A good alternative to the DPA4099 ist the Audio-Technica ATM350. Mic of choice for the Punch Brothers ... I prefer it over the DPA4099 for its clamp. It's an alligator clamp mounted at the tailpiece....
  8. Re: What Pickup/Pre-amp pedal are you currently using?

Neumann KM85 mic on a stand to the mic input of the Grace Felix for the past two years now.

    Before:
K&K pickup / DPA 4061 mic to the Grace Felix
    K&K pickup to the ToneDexter
    K&K pickup to the...

Re: Red Eye vs. Grace Design Felix or Alix

I hear you - always fun to purchase great gear ! That's why I own various preamps, beside checking the best solution when switching between several instruments on stage (guitar, mandolin, dobro,...

Re: Let's talk small, high-end, acoustic amps

I owned, tried or still own AER Compact 60, EAE D6-58 and Acoustic Image Coda. They all sound decent, the Acoustic Image (which is not on your list) the warmest sounding. One could be happy with any...

Re: Audio Technica Pro 35 clip on to pedal

    Hello,

there are several solutions for that:

Phantom power supply boxes - you connect it to your floor pedal using a XLR male/line - cable
    Mackie M48:...
  12. Re: What phantom power suply are you using with a DPA 4099?

There are various ways to get a great amplified sound (I own / use Grace Felix, ToneDexter ...), but considering what you already own and want to use (RedEye, DPA 4099 - both great pieces of gear) I...

    Re: Microphone recommendations

Especially when miking an acoustic guitar on stage some high pass filtering is crucial to avoid an overly boomy muddy sound. Low cut set to 80 Hz as offered in many desks already helps but is not...

One I forgot to mentions in my previous post:
Ear Trumpet Edwina. Yesterday evening I compared it to KM84 and Schoeps MK4 in my studio - sounds great!

    Re: Microphone recommendations

Over the years I used KM184, Gefell M300, KM84, Schoeps MK4, vintage Gefell M592/M70 on mandolin. KM84 and vintage Gefell are hard to come by these days. So my ranking would be Schoeps - Gefell M300...

    Re: Digital Mixer Advice!

I'm using the QSC Touchmix during the past four years and could not be happier.
