Re: Gold Tone mandocello -- thoughts?

"I would prefer an A style.. and do not see how it could be more expensive".

I will presume, if it's been chosen for a prototype, then Goldtone must either be already tooled up to produce this...

Re: Gold Tone mandocello -- thoughts?

The Goldtone product seems so far off the mark, if the above two videos represent the standard for this type of instrument. Whilst the guitar body concept bothers me less than some, The "Gibson...

    Re: AT 831b

I use that mic. I used just the plastic clip that holds the mic and made the rest out of a violin chinrest clamp, small ebony block and a short length of flexible wire.

    Re: Bobelock cases?

It looks as though the endpin is not sufficiently protected at the end of the case. Dropped on it's end, the case may transfer shock directly to the endpin.
  5. Re: Amplification quest resolved- K&K Silver Bullet

I have tried to place a mini mic inside a mandolin and, unlike Barb, have had horrible results concerning feedback. I made this from a violin chinrest clamp:

    Re: carbon fiber mandolin cases

The Accord cases I have seen are THE most hot-rod lookin', light-weight (not to mention wallet-lightening!) cases out there, but no mandolin case yet AFAIK. I'll probably stick with the old Calton...

    Re: Removing Frets

"Pry 'em off with a screwdriver?"?!?!? H*ll, just use dynamite!!

I do not own a low-voltage, high-current, resistance soldering station (whatever that is), but I do own one of those old...
  8. Re: Fitting Bridge to the Mandolin's Top - Any Tips?

Those with too much money burn $100 bills for sport and send the rest to Screw-Mac. The rest of us (like the fella above) study the picture of the ingenious, over-priced, platinum plated jig in the...

    Re: Unwanted Frets

Yeah, Bush and his sloppy right hand technique sure sucks. If Sam wasn't such a no-playin' slacker and had maybe spent some time refining his plectral manipulation, he wouldn't had to castrate the...

    Case cover for molded Eastman?

Anyone get a case cover for their molded Eastman case? Does anyone know if the Small Dog cover for a shaped TKL case will fit the eastman? TIA.

    Re: chopped Stew-Mac humbucker kit?

What I hate about using a gtr p.u. on an electric mandolin is IT' S TOO DAMN BIG! The proportions are way off. I like the idea of chopping the bobbin down. Making p.u.'s is fun!

    Re: Mando bass

Years ago, a band I was in at the time played McCabe's in LA. The dressing room they put us in also seemed to be their mandobass storage room, and there were two in there. I have a photo somewhere...
  14. Re: OK--what's the deal with fretless fretboard extensions?

Funny how not one post actually address the o.p.'s (and mine!) specific point. I do not believe he said a thing about scalloping the extension. I was wondering if anyone can say, "yes, I enjoy...

    Re: Fake , fake gibson

What kills me is most of these sellers honestly believe it is a gibson.
  16. Re: OK--what's the deal with fretless fretboard extensions?

I recently acquired my first F in a long time that has a traditional f.b. extension. The last few frets have been removed but it is unscalloped. I cannot comprehend what this modification is meant to...

    Re: Tuner on headstock

I conversely vote that "we all" super glue these things to our headstocks and USE 'EM! There's nothing drives me nuts more than out-of-tuness (okay, I can appreciate the "charm" of some outta tune...

    Re: Many mandos !

Hey, watch out! I didn't even know I was "in the market for a new mandolin"! A friend was, and sought my council, which got me looking. Next thing I know I'm several $1000's lighter and now own a...

    Re: notching new bridge saddle

I disagree with the suggestion that string notches in a bridge saddle should be cut with a triangular or knife shaped file, and that "The strings will eventually bed themselves in anyway". No less...

Re: anyone ever seen a Van Halen mando?

That does look miniature! Did you use a standard scale length? Your two knobs are jammed in there pretty tight, eh?

    Re: Classifieds

Someone's asking price (especially dealers) may well have nothing to do with an instrument's "worth" or value or what it ultimately sells for. The seller can list whatever he wants for a price, but...

    Re: Muth 2 Point

It looks as though the larger point has the potential to grow into a scroll, if properly fed and watered. If this is not your intention, you may be faced with regular pruning to maintain it's shape.

Re: Mandolin with curved hand on headstock

I've seen a headstock by a builder named Clawson. His logo was a "claw" (looking like a curved hand maybe?) reaching toward the "sun".

Re: Distressing a basic Nickel Tailpiece

With the acid treatment, I've always heard one should expose the part to just the fumes, as opposed to total immursion. Dangle the part into a container of muratic, or etching solution, just above...
