The idea of de-damping with a loudspeaker was to turn the volume up to full with nothing playing and lean your instrument against the speaker front to pick up the vibrations.

I fitted a soundpost to a Korean A model to prevent the very thin plywood top collapsing due to the pressure of the strings on the bridge, it did not affect the sound one way or the other.

A good way to find out the truth is to ask the vendor if you win, can you pick up the mandolin in person and hand over the payment in cash.

I use J74s on my 1917 A, no truss rod no problem, it plays great all the way up the neck.
