    Re: Mandolin music library

There's a significant collection associated with the Seattle Mandolin Orchestra. Our librarian is well into her 80s now and won't be able to hang on to it forever. An instrument dealer in the Bay...
  2. Re: A Georgian Panduri (ფანდური) I built

Nice! My panduri is, I think. just a piece of tourist junk ... not really playable, or at least the relationship between frets and bridge doesn't lend itself to playing according to any scale system...

  5. Re: Anyone near Camarillo want to make a few bucks?

That ad has been running for a long, long time.

I have an album — I think it's Tonio K.'s Olé! — with David Hidalgo credited as playing "mandolo." Maybe that's a typo and he actually played...

OK — are you interested in flipping the cases to me (if so, send me a private message) or do you want them for yourself?

Either way is fine with me ...

Harmony Monterey on eBay: caveat emptor!

So I bought this Harmony Monterey, not because I needed one but because it was in a Batwing case, which I did need:

    Re: Eastman ERM El Rey

Yes, I expect people will tweak these in one way or another, especially if the pickup problem doesn't get fixed. I'm sure that Jason at Fretboard Journal has already shared my comments with Otto and...

    Re: Eastman ERM El Rey

Light/heavy -- an unusual set to be sure. Did you choose that set in order to get a balanced response from your pickup, or for some other reason?

    Re: Eastman ERM El Rey

Agreed. Screw poles would be the most user-friendly solution, methinks. As noted in the review, it was strung with a 40–11 set. I guess you could go lighter on the other strings to try to balance the...

    Re: Eastman ERM El Rey

Well, the Lollar pickup definitely does not have screw poles, so adjusting them won't be a simple matter of reaching for your screwdriver. I should think Eastman needs to get the correct pole height...

ooh ... ad deleted ... guess that means the cases are gone! Coincidence?
  16. Re: Anyone near Camarillo want to make a few bucks?

that would be appreciated. I'll try to check in with you in a couple of weeks if I don't get another offer and the dude doesn't sell his cases or throw them out.

  18. Re: Anyone near Camarillo want to make a few bucks?

We all have our routines. I have 2 or 3 day jobs, depending on how you count, so flipping and string sales via Emando.com is at best a tertiary income stream, and it receives a commensurate time...
  19. Re: Anyone near Camarillo want to make a few bucks?

Oh, I've gone back and forth with this individual already. He does not wish to lift a finger to ship these cases.

And sure, I could lecture people on how to conduct their lives, but after I do,...

Well, perhaps I shoulda said "shrunken solidbody electric guitar" to be more precise. But I only learned about the El Rey guitar in the process of writing my review. It's not as though someone took...
  24. Re: A.F. Anderson 12-string Mandolin made from old, 1660 London p

Yeah, this is a cool instrument but either "piano" or "1662" is a work of fiction. No such thing existed, in London or elsewhere.

Kirkman, the first English firm to make pianos, was established...
