Here's a song by a UK band called The Wildhearts, I've arranged it for mandolin, don't think its too bad, be gentle, I'm a mando-hack playing for around 6-8 months on/off, ha ha

No love for Pyramid Strings here? - I'm using their silver-plated set. Also use Pyramid for guitar (have done for around 4 years) and love them. Very underrated.
I tried playing into a mic (AKG C1000 and a Shure SM57), but I couldn't get it loud enough before feedback. I'm using a JJB twin-Piezo now and its much better.
Hi Rico, 5w with an electric guitar and valve amp is WHOLE different world to a solid state 50w combo and a mandolin.
Still, it goes to show that my band is rather on the loud side - my guitar rig...
Gigged with the JJB EXT-100 tonight, worked a treat. The Marshall acoustic combo is a little underpowered at 50w, but I just about works for on-stage monitoring. I've got a line-out into the PA and...
thanks for the advice (everyone). I'm all for low-cost solutions, so I'm hoping the JJB piezo works out. That Cherub pickup posted by 'empire' looks to be a similar kinda device, just with an...
if you play it backwards on vinyl it's rumoured to work even better.
yeah, I know man - not a good idea, ha ha. one of those Epi Mandobird VIII's would probably be more practical.
I'll report back once I get the pickup and see how things go at rehearsals.
cheers for the advice guys - I ended up with the twin-piezo version of the EXT-100. I'll consider installing it inside the mandolin if I like how it sounds mounted externally. I just want to see...
I've just got one of those cheapy Cherub ones off ebay - works fine, job done.
FIELD REPORT:
Tried rehearsing with the mandolin amped up through the Marshall AS50R last night using an SM57 into the mic channel and a line out into our PA. Was just a feedback nightmare and...
One thing as a rock guitarist that I'm finding most difficult is 'hearing' the mandolin style in my head since I'm not used to hearing it played in music I listen to.
The MP3s on this site are...
Stephan Sobel is fairly local to me (within 20 miles), my Dad sold him (and the missus) a kitchen a few years back - thats how I got to know about him. My Pops said his work looked outstanding.

I love the API stuff - the EQ is quick and easy to use and very musical with it. Same deal with their compressor. Prepare yourself for an empty wallet though (pricey).
oh, and here's my band live... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbZl-46e-N4 I was going for the full-on Grizzly Adams look here, beard is out of control, ha ha.
here's the same song recorded in a...
thanks for the advice guys.
btw, the Mandobird rules - thats too much cool in one instrument :D
Cheers man, though I'm only bashing out a cover of REM's Losing My Religion, its a pretty easy tune. I've got 22+ years under my belt on guitar too, so I'm not starting completely from scratch.

Hi all, I'm gigging a Dean F-style mandolin, just picked up mandolin around 5 weeks ago and am loving it.
I'm after a pickup for live use direct into the PA. I tried an AKG C1000 small diaphragm...
I'm using the same 0.88mm nylon Dunlop picks that I use for guitar.
However, I was thinking of trying these bone picks for mandolin for more attack...
...
wow, gorgeous flame on the back.
also, I'll be using the mando live for a song or two - got a couple of AKG C1000 small-diaphragm condensers, anyone got experience with micing up mando's on stage? I'm gonna rule out a pickup as I...
thanks for the warm welcome guys, I can see I'm gonna like it on here.
here's a couple (or so) of youtube videos of me playing my 'day job' axe...

hi to everyone here, just got my first mandolin last Friday and am loving it. I've been a guitarist for 22+ years and fancied branching out a little.
I can busk Copperhead Road and Losing My...
