I have used the flatwound sets from emando on mandolin, mandocello, and octave mandolin. Sound-wise, they fall somewhere between TIs and bronze-wound strings. They might work for you.

I have a couple of Gators, along with a couple of other cases which appear to be built by Gator, or whoever builds their cases. Nothing wrong with them at all.
I would say that the Crossrock...
And, no doubt, that does happen from time to time.
Chinese, yes. Flimsy junk? Nope. I have both the F and the D Guitar.
I have the Eastman MD 315 oval hole. I am not sure how close the dimensions are to the original F2 or 4's. but it fits okay in the Crossrock -- not perfect, a bit snug, but I wouldn't hesitate to use...
I love the TIs, but my experience is the same. So, when I need a little extra bite, I use the Ej74s (on my Eastman F-copy), but if there are just a few folks, or we're playing more modern stuff, or...
Well, I have been using TIs for years (along with other brands), on mandos and 'cellos, and always trim them. However, I have been tempted not to trim them on the 'cello, but just because I want my...
I have used the both the TI and Daddario flatwounds, in various weights, on mando and 'cello, and I can assure you they are not the same. The Daddarios are great strings -- but not the same sound....
My Eastman mandocello uses a standard floating bridge as found on archtop guitar. I see no reason that it couldn't work on your zook, since, I have a TC zook hanging on the wall next to for...
I put this one on my 915 (along with gold grovers). I didn't one in nickel, but I wasn't looking.

I have owned the Gold Tone and the Eastman mandolas, but am not familiar with the Big Muddy or other brands mentioned in other posts. The GT is perfectly decent, and well-suited for folk or Irish...
I play the mandola with exactly the same fingering as the mandolin. The only difference is that to make a 7-fret stretch, at least close to the nut, I have to shift my hand position a bit to reach...
I figure a lot of folks here have probably seen this, but I just ran across it. I found it enjoyable and interesting (from 2016).
"On this week’s podcast, D’Ambrosio tell us about his colorful...
Hey folks!
Way back in the stone-age, I played a mandobird in a blues band. I just ordered a new Eastman El Rey ERM and, of course, I intend to have lots of fun trying out different strings. With...
I recently performed "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" with a mandola and a Cajun box drum (my wife provided the vocals. It worked very well. I currently own the Eastman, and I like it --...
Some people do believe that a "decent" mando starts at about $3000. I have been playing mandos for about 35 years, and my opinion differs. You should easily find a "decent" mando in your price...
Yes. There are in-line battery-powered phantom power units available. I also use the AT 35.
The J72s. I haven't tried the '76s -- I think they would be a bit too heavy for this scale length.
They work for me. The Collins, IIRC, has a deeper body. This does change the characteristics of the instrument, but the heavier strings will help "close the gap." I go back and forth between the...
I second this recommendation!
I have the "current" Eastman mandola. Previously, I had the "top-end" (815? 915?) Eastman, which was lost in a fire. It was very nice. That being said, I am not disappointed with the 315 at all. Much...
One of our fiddlers uses a Roland Cube, and indeed it is very decent amp. I went with the Bose S1. I found the sound a little bit nicer to my ear (the fiddler would disagree :) Thanks to everyone...
WOW. Yes. I actually did see tuners very much like those on a mandolin at a store where I was working... hmm... over forty years ago. I cannot for the life of me remember what kind of mandolin they...
There is quite a difference. The BC gives a rather "richer" tone than the Primetone, and creates a bit less pick noise. I have both and play with both of them, along with Wegen, the Chris Thile, and...
