Re: Modernizing an A-4. Yes or No?

If you bought it to add to your “collectibles” leave it alone. If you want it to be as playable as possible, get the work done. I bought a 1917 A-4. I could hear a voice I really liked, but those...

Here’s a quick recording I just made. Just a “medium room” amount of reverb added.

New mandola, actually. I own a Pomeroy oval hole mandolin that Don Paine built for me last February. It is the sweetest mandolin I’ve ever owned or played. So, I commissioned Don to make a matching...

    Re: Cost for refret

I would give Bruce Weber a call on this job. He might even have worked on it. Google Montana Lutherie. You have nothing to lose. Bruce is a great guy and one of the top luthiers. Even with shipping,...

Is anyone using an iOS device able to see or hear these mp3s? I can open every kind of attachment except this kind. :(

What’s the name of that track, Tm?
  8. Re: Mandolin solo gigs with backing tracks?

I recorded this with a Strum Machine track. It makes me think seriously about getting a good Bluetooth speaker for a small-venue gig.

I love the photo on the left…I mean I love the shape of those instruments! So elegant!

Billy, does that mean you record your own tracks?

    Re: Franks' Mandolin Kitchen

That’s it, Frank! Thanks for taking my request! I heard the tune as kid in the 50s, usually in a cartoon, or something.

Thanks! I think this issue is always worth bringing up. I just wish you (or someone) would include a good photo. (I haven’t read this whole thread, so maybe someone else did.)

    Re: Single TI Mandola String

I don’t. I guess I should, but I thought if I spoke to someone on the phone and told them exactly what I wanted and for what instrument, that would do it. Nope. The D string I got (two of them...

    Re: Single TI Mandola String

    Hey Pat!
Yes. Actually I wanted to try an octave pair (one fat, one skinny) on the Pomeroy. An experiment to see if I can get a little more “bite” on the C string. Stupid idea, maybe, but Don Paine...

    Single TI Mandola String

Anyone have, or know where I can acquire, a single TI mandola string? I’ve exhausted JustStrings. I need the D string for a standard American made mandola with a 15” scale.

    Re: Travel with mandocello...?

If you can stomach the cost, you could ship it ahead to someone (a reputable music store, perhaps). Airlines charge for a lot of check in luggage these days, anyway.
