    Re: 8 string Uke

I feel the same way. I love mandolas for that reason.

I'm surprised to see another one. This one with a guitar like neck.

I've been thinking of trying steel strings. Maybe silk and steel is a...

    Re: 8 string Uke

At the moment I'm using classical guitar strings on my 4 strings. The selection is mind boggling.

More punch? Hmmm that sounds good.

    Same here.
I'm also beginning to think I like baritone ukes because of the single course.

    Re: Electric Mandolin Buzzing

Well you might know something I don't, but the shielding should be copper or that special paint they sell.

    Re: Electric Mandolin Buzzing

    Sounds like 60 cycle hum.

There are plenty of YouTube videos about this.

    It's usually shielding or grounding.

    Hope that helps.

Re: Recording through the Bach Cello Suites

    That was great. Well done.
I'm struggling with this one now.
    The concentration required is awesome.

    Re: Pick depth

The lighter I play the better I sound.
I can even get some subtlety in there once in a while.
But it's a fight for me. The desire to hit it hard is always there.

    Re: Dunlop 500 .96mm

Just bought some based on your recommendation. They will be here in a few days.

I haven't added to "The Pick Museum" in quite a while so I'm looking forward to it.

Pro Plec 1.5 BTW are awesome.

Re: What Do You Use for Editing Standard Notation

I've been using Finale Notepad (the free version) for years.
It's quirky and has limitations but it suits me fine.
Works on Win 7 don't know what else.

    That was beautiful.

I play a more simplified version of Ashokan Farewell and this one has inspired me to punch it up a bit.

    https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/threads/148941-F-style-Ukulele

This recent thread is my experience with that.

In short, baritone ukes in CGDA work very well using classical guitar strings.

Re: Help with Martin Style 20 at GC Brooklyn

I didn't know the GC in Brooklyn was even open.

For the record I have never seen a vintage mandolin on display there, but if it's possible
I'll go there tomorrow (Sunday) and have a look.

    The Bottom Line

I’ve spent the last few days putting this instrument through the paces.
I am both happy and disappointed at the same time. This is an odd instrument.

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

I received my Bruce Wei F Style Baritone yesterday.

    Here are some basic facts:

It took four months from the OK to getting it in my hands.
    That's a long time IMO.
    But this was the first...
  18. Re: Complete Bach 1st Cello Suite - ukulele in 5ths tuning

Classical guitar strings work very well on a baritone (CGDA).
And there is a huge variety of options.
  19. Re: Complete Bach 1st Cello Suite - ukulele in 5ths tuning

    Well done.

I've been playing the Prelude on a baritone uke CGDA.
It's amazing how much tone you can get from those little boxes with a light touch.

  21. Re: Nylon GDAE tuning for an 8 string Baritone Ukulele

I use nylon guitar strings to get CGDA on my baritone Uke (same scale as yours).

I never tried GDAE but I think it's possible.

These have a high tension and feel great.
