Re: Advice sought about 1917 Gibson H1 Mandola

Not to hijack....but instead of planing the neck (with the fretboard off), would you not glue a shim in to flatten it...adding rather than subtracting (given that you have to take break angle and...

Re: Need advice on how to set up for looping

Yup! Pushed me back to using a drum machine (Alesis SR16.....much more interesting than a metronome) in conjunction with the looper. Amazing how much the music "breathes" without a steady...

Re: Monteleones in the Denver Area?

Another thing to try is to have the other player with the Collings play yours and compare volumes and tones. A lot of it comes from the player.

Also, while not ot or bg, in Tucson keep an eye out for Nancy McCallion either solo or in any of her bands. She used to be in the (now defunct)band The Molly's and is one of the best songwriters I...

Re: Best place in Chicago for repairs

I agree. Just bring it back to them if they fixed the original issue to your satisfaction.
  10. Re: Armenian (soviet) 1970's electric mandolin monstrosity

I am a total sucker for stuff like that. Comes under the heading of "So bad it is good".

Now I am wondering if the neck is straight.

The last thing I needed the first thing this morning......

Take a look at the Kala Tenor Guitar. Dirt cheap but well made. Sometimes their setup is iffy (I have two and a friend bought another one. One of mine had a horrible setup but was a great learning...

You may want to check out The Barbershop in Dripping Springs.....they have some pretty good players at some of their jams and events. You will definitely meet some players there that can hook you up.
