This sounds great! Very happy that someone is filling that glaring OT mandolin niche :-). I'm especially excited for the segments on rhythm and back up playing in an OT context.

Re: Strings wound wrong direction around tuners..

Thanks all for assurance! As jaycat pointed out, rewinding the existing strings would be near impossible due to fact they're already clipped. So I will leave them until my next natural string change....

Strings wound wrong direction around tuners..

    Hi all,

When replacing my strings today, I accidentally wound a few of them around the tuners the incorrect direction.

Odd buzzing ending at 12th fret

A few days ago the A and E strings of my mandolin started buzzing and I've been unable to diagnose the issue. Here are a few findings, however

    1. E string is worse than the A string.
    2. Only the...

Re: Speed: Missed Notes and feeling

I do agree with the central point you made!

    > For me it isn't the speed which is the issue, but lack of pulse or groove

But I think if one were to take the the rest of the band and have them...

Re: Speed: Missed Notes and feeling

Isn't it worse than that in reality? My experience has been that when a Bluegrass player says "120 bpm", they mean to play 2 downs and 2 ups in a single beat, which is what (before I started learning...

Re: Speed: Missed Notes and feeling

This is played with a Bluegrass interpretation (no claw hammer banjo, mandolin chops, etc.), but this is an old time tune, which I think explains the pulse. Old time songs are often constructed to be...

    Re: Right arm placement

FWIW all of the (bluegrass) mandolin instructional videos I've watched recommend the opposite positioning. i.e. the arm coming in above the tailpiece and holding the headstock at an angle in order to...

    Re: Pick orientation to strings

For my own understanding... does a downward angle mean the picking hand's palm rotates towards the ground whereas an upward angle means the palm rotates to face the sky?
