Re: Sierra Hull- tone tips video

I have a couple of Primetone large triangle 1.5’s, without the grip. They’re good picks, that give a lot of volume and decent tone. They were my go-to picks for a couple of years until I tried the...

Re: Sierra Hull- tone tips video

I've been using a TP60 for the last few years - slightly smaller than a TAD shape.

Mile Twelve win an IBMA Award

Just heard that Bluegrass band Mile Twelve, which features David Benedict on mandolin, has picked up the Best Newcomer award at the 2020 IBMA Awards.

Saw them last year here in the UK, and they...

First of all, I’m very pleased to hear that Trevor is ok.

Regarding Facebook - whether you think it’s the best thing since sliced bread, or a brain-shrivelling waste of time, Dagger Gordon is...
  8. Re: Ukulele Chords Played on Mandolin: Something is Wrong

The Learn/Listen section on this website has loads of mandolin chords. So if, for example, you needed G, C and D chords to play a song, just look up the relevant chord shapes and learn them,

    Re: Weber Gallatin no logo

Does it have a Weber/Sound to Earth label inside, And is there a serial number?

If so, you could either contact Weber, or Montana Lutherie, which is Bruce Weber’s new business venture.

    Re: El Toro ?

I've never played a Silverangel/El Torro (they're as rare as hen's teeth here in the UK), but Ken Ratcliff's been building mandolin's for many years, and his instruments are known to have a rich,...

Re: Narrowed it down to three

Mark, I think Eastman have changed their neck shapes at some point.

About 8 years ago I bought an Eastman 505 - it had a slim, V-shaped neck and a narrow nut width (which was giving me a ton of...

Re: Narrowed it down to three

    Another +1 for Kentucky.

Eastmans are also very good instruments.

Every Loar I’ve seen here in the UK has had a really thick neck and very thick varnish, with runs and drips in it. Could...

    Hi all

My youngest son and I took a socially distanced trip to Eagle Music in Yorkshire on Saturday, to try out some octave mandolins. He’s had my Octave on loan for a while, and decided that he...

I also use the Hercules stands at home for guitars. My Octave also fits nicely. They're sturdy and well-built.
  19. Re: Meet new duo The Foreign Landers - David and Tabitha Benedict

They’re two great musicians, who have now tied the knot. Tabitha is the banjo player from Midnight Skyracer, and Dave is from Mike Twelve.

    Re: Weber Bitterroot Cedar Top

Can’t speak for cedar-topped mandolins, as I’ve knowingly played one. However, cedar-topped guitars tend to have a darker, warmer sound than one spruce-topped ones.

  24. Re: Mandolin Recommendations - Beginner to Intermediate
